American Double / Imperial IPA |  10.80% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
We first released this decidedly indelicate beer in 2012, as Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our belovedly bitter Stone Ruination IPA. Stone RuinTen IPA uses the same recklessly hoppy recipe as the 2012 release; only the name has changed, as we plan to unleash this belligerently delicious hop monster upon the public annually from now on. We packed a whopping five pounds of hops into each barrel, and cranked up the ABV to stand up to the hop onslaught. The results are glorious, and we know you'll rejoice in tasting this audacious gem of hoppy splendor once again. You're welcome.

*I appreciate the "drink by 08/28/13", but I'm sure the hops would be quite faded by then.

A - It is translucent golden orange in color with a quickly fading small, off white head with minimal lacing.

S - Very pungent. Resinous grapefruit... This is not delicate.  It's one-dimensionally overpowering, but that's what I expected.  Huge hop profile.

T - Hop spiciness and big bitterness upfront, yet still smooth . There's a substantial burn in the finish, but I don't mind it too much.  Oily hop resin and alcohol in the finish. There's a nice, slightly Brady aftertaste which lingers.

M - It has a thinner body than I was expecting, which threw me off at first since it's so strong in flavor... I expected a slightly fuller body and mouthfeel.

O - It's a big, bad west coast DIPA... I'd would have liked to compare it to FFF dreadnaught Ina side-by-side.  I'm glad I got to try it, especially in the summer hear, but once was enough for me.  I'd recommend it to hopheads, but it's not a beginner craft beer.

Picked this up tonight at the COOP for $7ish.... Pours with a nice 2 finger off white head that leaves nice drapes of lacing atop a clear lite copper brew.

Nose is proper Stone... resinous pine and oily grapefruit with a little bit of melon or tropical fruit thrown in... There is enough residual maltiness to help amplify the hoppiness.

Big and brutally bitter especially on the finish... But the hoppiness from the aromas translate nearly perfectly to the palate... booze and bitterness sorta burns down the gullet.

Body is medium with a good small bubble carbonation.

Pretty damn good, but certainly not a common pleasure for me anymore.

A - Pours a medium to dark copper color with a thin layer of white head and mild carbonation.

S - Resiny pine and tropical fruit aroma that's a little earthy, sticky, and vinous.

T - Spicy, earthy dank, dark resiny citrus with grapefruit

M - Medium to full medium body.

O - Ruination is a really enjoyable beer and comparing this side by side there's no way I'd peg these as being siblings. Definitely worth trying but do it now as opposed to later before all the hops fade.

Poured from a bomber into a Stone pint glass. The bottle is marked "Drink by 08/28/13", it should be very fresh.

Appearance: Pours a translucent copper and leaves a finger of nice, dense head that lingers for quite some time leaving behind some very nice lacing.

Smell: That nice, dank ruination hop aroma shines through: pine, light citrus/pineapple, earthy tones, hops, hops, hops.

Taste: Pleasant, strong pine, caramel, nice malt backbone to keep it in check, earthy tones. I might even dare to say that this is more balanced than standard ruination, although both are definitely hop bombs. Tasty hop-forward flavor.

Mouth-feel: Very well carbonated with a medium slightly syrupy body, although not overly so. Finishes very smooth for the ABV.

Overall: Definitely a quality (¿triple?) IPA. Lots of hops, but still very drinkable. I'm impressed with the tasty, piney flavor as well as the nice, slightly softer aroma. I would tend to look for a bit more balance in an IPA like this, but this is certainly close.
