American Double / Imperial IPA |  10.80% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
We first released this decidedly indelicate beer in 2012, as Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our belovedly bitter Stone Ruination IPA. Stone RuinTen IPA uses the same recklessly hoppy recipe as the 2012 release; only the name has changed, as we plan to unleash this belligerently delicious hop monster upon the public annually from now on. We packed a whopping five pounds of hops into each barrel, and cranked up the ABV to stand up to the hop onslaught. The results are glorious, and we know you'll rejoice in tasting this audacious gem of hoppy splendor once again. You're welcome.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass

Pours a dark gold with hints of orange, with a full white head. Nice lacing sticks around on the glass through completion.

Smell is thick with spicy hops and absolutely delicious. Somewhat sweet to back it all up.

Taste is hop-forward, obviously. Piney and spicy hops are practically overwhelming, in a very good way. There is a significant amount of sweetness there for good balance. It doesn't quite get to balance, but the effort is there. Actually seems like a bit of a fruity/orange flavor left behind afterwards.

Mouthfeel is thick with good carbonation, and a decent creaminess. The alcohol is definitely there, as well, but not to an extreme degree.

Overall this is just awesome. Would definitely pick up again, and if not, wll be impatiently waiting for next year's.

Pours a bright, sunset orange color with an off white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a thick ring of lacing. Smells of lots of pineapple and grapefruit, grass, tons of floral, mango, papaya, resin. Not getting much malt and maybe a hint of booze. Taste starts with grapefruit and floral notes. The middle brings lots of sweetness, as well as some breadiness; however, this just barely mellows out the hops. The finish is very big, but still complex. Tons of tropical fruit notes like mango, papaya, and pineapple. Definitely used citra hops in this. Big resin notes and accompanying bitterness. Some earthiness and grassiness. Not much malt to speak of, as the abrasive bitterness covers up the breadiness. The hefty sweetness is necessary to somewhat calm the finishing flavors. Decent amount of booziness along with a warming sensation. Full body with an oily and slick mouthfeel. Just punches you in the face with abrasive, bitter hops. Not for everyone, but I definitely dig it.

Wow is this a great beer. The best IPA and probably the best beer I ever tasted. Almost a 5 on appearance. In fact a 5 when first poured, but it probably is just as good as all my other alltime favorites. I would have gave this a 5 total without review but it is a little pricey. That said, to date the best beer I ever tasted. Full body, great pour, great head, awesome taste, after taste even better and ABV a nice bonus. No I am not going to get into flavors and what not. This beer is delicious to my taste buds. So for me I could drink this everyday. Try it. Just my advice from a guy who likes beer from mass produced to the high end. Sorry I do not do the fancy reviews. Pour it, drink it rate it!
