Notes/Commercial Description:
We first released this decidedly indelicate beer in 2012, as Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our belovedly bitter Stone Ruination IPA. Stone RuinTen IPA uses the same recklessly hoppy recipe as the 2012 release; only the name has changed, as we plan to unleash this belligerently delicious hop monster upon the public annually from now on. We packed a whopping five pounds of hops into each barrel, and cranked up the ABV to stand up to the hop onslaught. The results are glorious, and we know you'll rejoice in tasting this audacious gem of hoppy splendor once again. You're welcome.

Pours a somewhat clearish amber orange color. It's a thicker looking pour than what's left in the glass, but despite it's darkish color, there's no haze and not entirely opaque. The head lacks size and retention. Nothing to see here, carry on.

There's a pleasant smell in the snifter somewhere, but it seems a bit shy. A few swirls (should I really have to do this to pick up the scent) brings out a flowery, fruity garden of pine, orange, and grapefruit. More swirls and the pine dominates.

Very malty, but I guess it has to be to play with hops like this. Bready, crackerlike taste, followed by an onslaught of pine and resin and oil and everything else that comes with hops. In the swallow, you're teased with some orange and grapefruit before the alcohol punches you.

Yes, it's bitter, but that's the idea. It's actually fairly smooth for what it is. There's plenty of body, despite the looks and there's a gentle sweetness from the malt before you lose feeling in your tongue from the hop party. There's a splash of citric acid in the finish just before the heat from the alcohol burns it away and the hop resins and oils ambush your palate.

It took a while to get going, but it's pretty good, particularly if you like hop bombs. Much better than Ruination IPA. The alcohol shows up sparingly with some ho hum heat, but this beer is moderately smooth and could get you in trouble with the ABV if you're not paying attention (and your palate can handle it).

Pours a nice deep amber color with a minimal head. Smell is all hops, you know what you're in for. There's a sweetness in the back with the hoppiness in the front, but balance is totally missing. For me, it was a bit of a chore to drink - I'm glad I tried it but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to buy it again.

Clear honey colored with fine streams of bubbles rising up to. Tightly bubbled head of beige from that settles out quickly. Amazing aroma of bright citrusy hops , lots of tangerine and grapefruit rind. Big flavors of hoppy goodness, orange rind pith, tangerine, ruby grapefruit, plus some piney notes. Alcohol strength definitely makes itself known, which detracts from the experience IMO. Finishes dry and very bitter, with notes of grand marnier liqueur booziiness. Good beer, but trying to be so extreme pushes the edges of the envelope into unnecessary places.

A-clear, dark orange-amber color, fluffy off-white head with great retention.

S-like running through a hops field after a rainstorm, grapefruit, pine, hint of malt

T-a full double IPA, grapefruit bitterness with balance, didn't detect any alcohol

M-pleasent aftertaste, it definitely sticks around

O-a very good double, great presentation, taste, and finish. Hoppy and smooth. Very good.

Medium amber with a thick frothy off-white head. Looks serious.

Like smelling a glass full of hops. Smells serious.

Yeah. One of those serious IPAs. Boozy, hoppy, some sweet tasty malt back and then more booze.

Thick. No doubt you're drinking something serious, and you wouldn't want to have too much.

Would almost work as a night cap for me. Since it's an annual thing now, I'll probably always get at least one bottle, but not much more than that.

A - Clear bronze, small near white head slow to leave. Some cling lace.

S - Hops are there, yes, but maltier than expected.

T - It almost reminds me of an east coast DIPA, as the hops are strong, but the malt is huge too!

M - Medium body, good carb, nice balance.

D - At near 11%, deceptively drinkable.

22oz bottle split and poured into a tulip. Drink by 08/28/13 on the neck.

A: Pours a slightly hazy amber orange with a dense mostly white head. Lots of small bubbles are visible in the body. Head sticks around for a long time and leaves lacing on the side.

S: Fresh hop aroma hits you in the face upon first whiff. Lots of citrus with a bold sweetness. Earthiness comes from the hops too, just a touch of pine. Malts warm up and give it a bit of a fermented fruit note.

T: Certainly a bold brew. Hops are huge and dominate the first few seconds after sipping. Malts show up and add a complimenting sweetness. Balances out on the aftertaste with an earthy, fresh hop character. Can taste a bit of the booze.

M: Full body with low carbonation. Comes across fairly creamy and thick. Not overly sticky considering the resinous hops. Alcohol is by no means hot, just warming in the stomach.

Overall Stone makes some serious IPA's and this is no exception. I've always been a Ruination fan and this feel fresher and lighter. A must try for any bold IPA fan. I will be getting next years batch.

Pours a golden amber color, a couple shades darker than your traditional IPA. The fluffy head is cream colored and settles into a nice cap. Good lacing on the glass.

Big grapefruit aroma with some tropical fruit notes. There is some pine that is eagerly popping through. Some honey sweetness from the malt.

The flavor is has a bright citrus hop with some bitter grapefruit rind. Orange and pineapple notes provide sweetness. The hop profile then transitions into piney and peppery. Substantial bready malt that helps balance the hop overload.

The feel is moderate to full bodied with softish carbonation. A big sweet malt that is more than balanced out by the hops. The hops leave a dry aspirin like bitter finish.

Very good DIPA. Not overly crushing on the palate but still quite bitter. Nice flavor profile.
