Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice glass. Bottle says August 2012.
Appearance: Pours a deep and fairly clear copper amber orange. Lots of rising bubbles and a big four finger off white creamy head that slowly recedes into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing on the glass.
Smell: A big hop forward aroma with a sharp kick of citrus. Hints of citrus grapefruit, mango, orange, pineapple, peach, and a big scent of lemon from the verbena. Also a minty, tea like scent. Some earthy hops along with a good hint of spicy pine resin. Decent malt presence behind the hops with hints of biscuit and caramel. A little scent of alcohol also comes through. Pretty solid.
Taste: Like the aroma suggests, a big bitter taste of citrus hop esters. Starts with a bitter slap on the tongue from ripe citrus hops. Notes of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, peach, pineapple, and lots of lemon all over. In addition to the citrus is a solid mix of earthy and herbal hops with a nice piney kick. There is a quite noticeable taste of a green tea like mint lingering with the citrus. Some bready malts back things up with some caramel and biscuit. A quite interesting and tasty take on a Imperial IPA.
Mouthfeel: Body is on the fuller side. Carbonation is moderate. Somewhat slick and a fairly oily and juicy feel. A little heat is felt but the high abv is still masked fairly well.
Overall: Another good IPA from Stone. The heavy lemon and hint of mint tea is a nice twist. Solid all around.

08/22/12 On tap. To me most IPAs are too aggressive. This an exception. It's well balanced as to it's bitterness & the respectable hoppyness. It got a kick with a little burn. Appears to be brewed with me in mind and not the brewers bragging rights. Sue me, but I'll say it anyway...it's got great grownup characteristics.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 22 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 10 % and there is a nice discretion of the beer.
Appearance: The beer has a deep honey amber color with a slight haze. It builds a tall just off white head on top which hangs on well and clings to the glass making lots of cool lacing.
Smell: The aroma is full of loads of bright lemony citrus and well...hops. (Classic Stone IPA)
Taste / Palate: The flavor is full of hops from start to finish. First up are the citrus and tropical notes with a spicy malty bready base. This fades into herbal and pine like hop notes with slow fading bitterness in the finish.
Notes: Hang on to the hops roller coaster its going to be a bitter good ride.
