Poured from a 22 oz. bomber into my awesome oversized 25 oz. snifter.
Appearance: Beer pours a pretty standard dark, rust orange color with about two fingers of light khaki colored head. The head quickly sunk into a thin layer but was nice enough to leave some extraordinary lacing in its wake.
Smell: Over the top tropical fruit notes as well as plenty of lemon as well, obviously. A touch of sweet caramel malt with some rye spiciness. Overall, a lot going on here in the nose but its well married and inviting.
Taste: Incredibly, the first flavor that I pick out is the rye. It's spicy, crisp and a nice change for Stone. There's ample citrus hops flavor throughout. Besides the rye, not much else going on malt-wise. Finish is mildly bitter with a kick of boozy heat.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and mildly under-carbonated in my opinion. Some warmth from the 10% but it didn't hinder my enjoyment of the beer.
Overall: A good IPA and somewhat of a departure for Stone with the rye and the lemon oil. Overall, I think I enjoye Stone's regular lineup of IPAs better than this one but its worth checking out before its gone.

08/22/12 On tap. To me most IPAs are too aggressive. This an exception. It's well balanced as to it's bitterness & the respectable hoppyness. It got a kick with a little burn. Appears to be brewed with me in mind and not the brewers bragging rights. Sue me, but I'll say it anyway...it's got great grownup characteristics.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 22 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 10 % and there is a nice discretion of the beer.
Appearance: The beer has a deep honey amber color with a slight haze. It builds a tall just off white head on top which hangs on well and clings to the glass making lots of cool lacing.
Smell: The aroma is full of loads of bright lemony citrus and well...hops. (Classic Stone IPA)
Taste / Palate: The flavor is full of hops from start to finish. First up are the citrus and tropical notes with a spicy malty bready base. This fades into herbal and pine like hop notes with slow fading bitterness in the finish.
Notes: Hang on to the hops roller coaster its going to be a bitter good ride.
