APPEARANCE: A fluffy, finger and a half head rests atop a light orange and transparent beer. A few lazy bubbles make their way to the surface as the head fades at a similarly slow pace. Good looking beer, but not a whole lot of lacing.
SMELL: Dank and delicious smelling. The aroma on this beer gets me every time…so good. Piney resin plays around with not-so-subtle grapefruit notes and an underlying grassiness. Tropical fruits round it out with a little sweetness.
TASTE: Less surprising than anything else you’ll read about this beer, it tastes amazingly fresh, but just two weeks away from the brewery, what else should I expect? Enjoy By is the beer equivalent of Phil Spector’s wall of sound. Multiple, big layers of deliciousness all seem to attack the palate at the same time. Pine and grass provide a base for big citrus and tropical fruit flavors to blend perfectly with. Also, I’m getting an unexpected (but not unwanted) hint of white chocolate with the finish.
MOUTHFEEL: Bitterly balanced is the best way to describe the mouthfeel of Enjoy By. The balancing malt arrives with just enough strength and just in time to leave the palate teased for the bitterness of that next fresh sip. In terms of body, this would fall into the bigger end of the medium-to-big-bodied category.
OVERALL: The best way to sum up this beer is that it is simply a well put together Double IPA. Also, I love the short shelf life, ensuring that if I can find one it will be fresh with 100% certainty. Hope Colorado gets more in the next round.
