22 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass and consumed on August 31st, 2013.
A- Poured a mostly transparent, copper color with a fluffy off-white head with good retention, and small lively carbonation. Nice lacing, but how much does that really matter?
S- Very hop forward with all sorts of fruity and citrus hop aromas. Tropical fruits, pineapple, leafy herbal hops. A bit of toasty grains and boozy aromas too as it warms. Definitely, some pine in there too.
T- Like sucking on a fresh, wet hop. Bitter on the tips of the tongue all the way through to the bitter finish, but there is enough fruity, hoppy flavor to go along with the bitterness to make for an “enjoyable” experience. The alcohol adds a pleasant flavor and warming finish, but doesn't get in the way of the hoppiness. There seems to be just enough of a malt backbone to keep this beer honest and complement the juicy hops.
M- Full bodied mouthfeel, slick and resinous, but not sticky which could be partly due to the carbonation doing its job. A bitterness hits the back of the palate and throat on the finish; and, along with the retro-olfaction, leaves an herbal, hoppy sensation that lingers.
O- Everything about this double IPA is intense, distinct, and full flavored. The amount of concentrated hop aromas, flavors, and acids that are packed into this beer is quite impressive. Yet it isn't so domineering, because I wish I had another bottle to drink right now. However, I think this beer is making me realize that I'm not a huge fan of double IPA's at this point in my drinking career, which is reflected in my overall score of only 4. With that being said, I can certainly still appreciate the skilled craftsmanship involved in the creation of this fine brew.

A: Very bright, crystal clear gold. No haze of any kind. Decent head that dissipated fairly quickly, nice lacing.
S: Huge tropical fruit, sweet citrus, as well as some underlying pine resin. Malt comes through as a neutral bready character with a little candy-like sweetness that binds with the hops. The aroma is explosive, intense even for the style.
T/M: Big, smooth hop bitterness that lingers all the way through, it is soon met with huge resiny tropical fruit, citrus and pine notes with underlying spicy, oniony complexities. The malt makes an appearance as well, giving a slightly sweet, bready backbone to the beer that works beautifully with the fruity hop notes. Hops just blast through the bone-dry finish.
Overall: Wow... wow. Big-time west-coast hop-bomb! The hops explode in this beer, and while that is getting more and more common, this one does it with incredible complexity and subtlety. You can pull out a huge array of hop flavors, and they all stand distinct, without a messy overall character. The balance is extraordinary, and that is an accomplishment in the West-Coast IPA style. The concept of this beer is awesome, get it to the customer as fast as possible and teach distributors about the importance of fresh IPAs. But, the execution was even better, Mitch Steele nailed this one.

Finally got my hands on an EnjoyBy! Bottled 9/20/13, just screaming freshness.
Appearance: Pours a golden orange with two fingers of foamy whitish head that fades relatively quickly, leaving beautiful lacing.
Smell: Just lovely, with tons of tropical fruit, predominately grapefruit and pineapple with lots of citrus. A good deal of Stone-style west coast hop bitterness and piney aromas come through as well. Freshness is evident here.
Taste: Beautiful strong citrus, with the grapefruit and pineapple of the aroma and some mango as well. Despite this, a great deal of pine and grass come through to strike a remarkably balanced DIPA.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with perfect carbonation and solid hop bitterness. A bit of heat, and a nice crisp dry finish.
Overall: Absolutely fantastic, and I'm glad I finally got to try this one. Great beer and I hope we get it again.
