You have in your hands a devastatingly fresh double IPA. While freshness is a key component of many beers - especially big, citrusy, floral IPAs - we've taken it further, a lot further, in this IPA. You see, we specifically brewed it NOT to last. We've not only gone to extensive lengths to ensure that you're getting this beer in your hands within an extraordinarily short window, we made sure that the Enjoy By date isn't randomly etched in tiny text somewhere on the label, to be overlooked by all but the most attentive of retailers and consumers. Instead, we've sent a clear message with the name of the beer itself that there is no better time than right now to enjoy this IPA.

Bomber poured into a tulip. Bottle best consumed before Boxing Day. No obstacles there. Dark yellow amber with a finger and a half of creamy, slightly frothy off-white head. On the light side visually speaking. Aroma dominated by tropical fruit (pineapple, guava, mango, passion fruit), tangerine, lemon, and peaches, with a subtle pine undercurrent. There is more pine on the palate (along with a decent blast of booze), with the nose skewing fruitier, although I am still getting copious quantities of tropical nectar and peach. Slight hint of onion. Very light malts, just a tinge of toffee. Comes off as well-attenuated, with little to conceal the generous hop bill. Somewhat woody and herbal on the back end but lacks the potent green notes one can get in less refined fresh hop ales. Less body than expected for such a "big" beer, dare I say on the light side, with just the right amount of mid-range fizz. I am temped to deem this Go To IPA's big brother, although that comparison does not quite capture the nuances. Suffice to say, this is a powerful brew yet somehow sophisticated in its lack of coarse bitter notes or green off-flavors. Nothing but tropical muskiness, citrus rind, and pleasant floral alcohols to nourish the beer geek soul.

Rating is based on the 12-26-2014 edition, which as I understand it is surpassed by a handful of prior bottlings. That said, this is an extremely enjoyable double IPA which deserves to be consumed fresh.

Head forms at the width of a finger or two, recedes rather quickly. Citrusy and flowery aroma, candied fruit malts with some tacky pine, excellent bitter hop finish. Not incredibly complex but Stone prices this right and DIPA fans should absolutely take notice.

No gimmicks here, drink by the posted date and your taste buds will be rewarded.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 16/12/14 still 10 days until its boxing day due date

A clear golden yellow liquid, a little lighter then expected, lots of little bubbles feed a well sustained two finger foam that slowly falls coating the side of my glass with random lace

S big tropical nose on this one, pineapple, guava, mango, peaches, tangerine, lemon, and a little passion fruit, smells massive, a hint of pine, hard toffee and booze but its a total hop runaway

T more pine, lots of lemon rind and the booze comes out a little more, still very tasty stuff but it just doesn't quite keep up to what the nose was offering

M lighter side of medium, creams up nicely, bitter and gritty with just a little heat going down, pine and lemon linger

O solid DIPA start to finish but the nose was a little ahead of the other departments, booze popping up here and there is my only complaint and its a minor one

I can't complain that I bought this in Alberta but selling it here might be a slight challenge with the ten day window before its "BB" date

3/14/15 bottle. A sweet piney citrusy resinous hop bomb with a perfect bitter finish. This is my favorite enjoy by release I've had so far.

Enjoy by 12-26-14 edition… Enjoyed on 12/14/14

Appearance is slightly paler than a traditional IPA. However, it is beautiful with its orange and golden hues.

Aroma was immediate right when I popped the top off. I could smell it from a solid 2 feet away! Beautiful aroma of citrus and tropical fruits. Definitely grapefruit peel and some peach notes. Finishes with a mild honey or syrupy-sweet smell.

Taste is definitely hop-forward. This is an aggressively hopped beer as is traditional with Stone brews! I get so much tropical fruits and more bitter grapefruit! The oddly addictive taste is the peach and mango flavors. Very pleasant. Middle of the mouth is major hop bitterness that transitions into a moderate alcohol finish. Carbonation is moderate. Recap: major grapefruit and tropical fruit flavors, then bitterness, followed by a warming alcohol. I would highly recommend this dish with something rich. I enjoyed it with a bacon mac n cheese and it was PERFECT! Everything ended up balancing out!

Overall, this was a better version of the Enjoy by. I have had this before previously, but this batch had a much greater emphasis on the tropical fruits, which I enjoyed. The only downside is that the beer wasn’t all that balanced. It definitely hit with the hop bitterness, but it didn’t have enough malt backbone to make it more well-balanced. I’m not saying that it shouldn’t be an IPA, but it needs a tad bit more malt to up the complexity and overall balance. I would rate this a 90/100.
