You have in your hands a devastatingly fresh double IPA. While freshness is a key component of many beers - especially big, citrusy, floral IPAs - we've taken it further, a lot further, in this IPA. You see, we specifically brewed it NOT to last. We've not only gone to extensive lengths to ensure that you're getting this beer in your hands within an extraordinarily short window, we made sure that the Enjoy By date isn't randomly etched in tiny text somewhere on the label, to be overlooked by all but the most attentive of retailers and consumers. Instead, we've sent a clear message with the name of the beer itself that there is no better time than right now to enjoy this IPA.

Second batch Enjoy By 11.09.12. Bright orange color, super head and lace. Super juicy citrus and hops in the aroma, definite west coast. More citrus, pine, bitterness, typical west coast and typical stone. This is a good DIPA and I would expect nothing less from Stone. I sure hope we get another batch of this in Colorado at some point. Winner.

Gift from Johnny Ramirez. Enjoy by 12.21.12 - the "end of the year" version... Sweet! Pours a golden amber color with excellent clarity and a small white head. Decent lacing - something I've now always come to expect from Stone brews. Heavy pineapple on the nose, grapefruits, tangerines, slight lemon zest; floral hops, perfume fragrance, wet grass. Very nice - it has a "juicy" smell, the smell you'd expect from biting into a fruit. If that fruit was loaded with hop oil.

Taste is, of course, hoppy; slightly peppery, a little leafy, ashy, kind of dry. Heavy dose of malt and yeast; biscuity with some warming alcohol spice on the roof of the mouth and the back of the tongue. Over the course of the sip, the hop profile grows and expands, it starts taking on a very dank, resinous, and musty flavor and aroma. Interesting and very complex. Weedy overall, with some onion notes in the back that are kind of strange, but not necessarily off-putting, just a little strange. The malt sweetens things up a bit, and the yeast helps out too - bread, crackers on the end of the sip. As mentioned, the flavor follows right along with biting into a tropical fruit soaked in hop oil. Aftertaste is a bitter and spicy hop flavor. Thick body, sticky, wet, medium carbonation.

It's rare that I'm disappointed by Stone beers, and this one is no exception. Excellent IPA with a very complex profile - very tasty all around. In my opinion, probably the best Stone IPA I've tried. Too bad this one doesn't come to Michigan, because I'd always try to find the latest release.

I enjoyed the 12 21 12 version here in chicago...

Appearance: Pours a crisp deep golden color, pretty transparent…some bubble action happening in the middle…off white head forms and lasts…does look a little watery…

Smell: Citra hops galore…orange, grapefruit, mango, pineapple explosion…some sweetness and a touch of paleness…this is all hops… smells like the fresh orange juice I just did in my breville like an hour ago…this thing is fresh…it’s a mouth watering aroma…

Taste: Massive citrus hops…orange, grapefruit, pineapple, pine, earthiness…some bitterness, but it’s nice…some dryness, like a persimmon…there is some floral hop bitterness in the after taste…sweet, pale malt is present, but definitely overwhelmed by all the hops…does add a nice backbone though with good flavor…

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body…medium carbonation, nice fluff does form, leaving citrus bitterness all over my tongue…long lasting citrus hop flavor and bitterness in the after taste…smooth and refreshing, leaves my mouth watering for more, and I’ll ablidge…

Overall: Awesome! One of the best brews I’ve had in a long, long time…the taste is very fresh, crisp, light, full and awesome…enough hops to satisfy any hop head out there…citrus and pine hops galore, the malt does add some balance, but this is for the lovers… there is so much fresh zest to this, it lives up to the “drink by” concept…definitely head of the class in this ever expanding “west coast/american” pale ale and IPA genre…if you see this, buy it…then drink it…
