Bottle to Woodshop snifter

App- This poured out like a liquid cherry mixed with chocolate at a 50/50 blend. It was brown, it was rich and creamy and had tinges of red throughout. The head on this was a bit thin and khaki. Poured out like a 1/4" and then left a bit of cling.
Smell- I enjoyed the aromatics on this one. It was just as the bottle said. You really could pull the aromatics on all of the ingredients. The chocoalate was first and a bit sweet and creamy. The cherry and its lingering sweetness was there. The rye and a little spice and the whispy booze was last.
Taste- I enjoyed it. The flavors dropped off a bit from the nose but thats okay. Its a new stout from stone and they have been doing pretty well lately. The base beer is still there just kicked up a bit with the booze and the prickly whiskey and rye flavors. Overall, well integrated but just doesnt pop like I thought it would.
Mouth- A solid medium with a good medium low carbonation. A little bit of the rye and the whiskey take over. A bit sweet residual from the cherries and a little bit of a sugary syrup flavor.
Drink- A welcome treat that I didnt grab before. Thanks vince. Very flavorful and creamy. Well integrated but just better than average.

At the brewery.
Pours a nice dark brown with cherry hues along the edges. A bit of mocha foam here and there. Smells like cherries, sweet cherries, booze, vanilla, lots of cocoa and some bread. Flavor initially too boozey, as it warms the flavor is a bit better with the cherry really making a massive impact. Lots of cherries. Some sweet malts and some vanilla. The body is full but the Carb was a bit hi for the beer, once this was killed it got better. Nice beer. Good for a group of 4-6.

Such a nice base beer. Barrel aging doesn't always come out as brilliant as hoped sometimes. The integration on the rye whiskey barrel fails to lend any value to the taste of an already great beer. I think if Stone stuck to just using bourbon barrels they'd have more success here. Cherry, chocolate and whiskey nose was the highlight of this beer for me.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, wood, and whiskey. Taste is much the same with a slight tartness that could be from the cherries. There is also an alcohol kick and woody aftertaste with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a great aroma but I wasn’t expecting the taste to be slightly tart.
