Thanks to Bill for this one. 12oz. bottle into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter.
.5 finger creamy dark mocha head with moderate retention. Beer is pitch black though a touch thin. Stringy lace with average stick and nice legs. Solid.
Mint is immediately apparent in the nose. Background of roasted malt, chocolate, fudge and cocoa. Nice. Tough just like the appearance, a bit thin.
Opens chocolate and fudge. Big mint notes from start to finish. Some cocoa makes this a touch coarse. Almost like an Andies mint but a bit more bitter. Finishes chocolate, mint and cocoa with a sweet, fudge aftertaste. The mint is a nice touch and definitely very different. But I'm not a huge fan of it.
Medium bodied with moderate to low carbonation. Oily and smooth in the mouth and warm going down with the slightest touch of heat. Messy finish with a long, lingering, sticky aftertaste. Drinks nicely.
I was a bit skeptical of how much mint would show up in this brew initially but after trying it, I'd have to say I'm impressed. Mint is incredibly apparent and adds a dimension I've never tasted before. I'm not a huge fan of the flavor all things considered but this is a very well crafted beer that showcases its main flavor admirably.
