Appearance 3.50: Very attractive golden brown color to this beer. Not much of a head at all and I really cranked the pour. Sometimes the CO2 will bite you in the stone keister.
Smell 3.5: Pleasing bouquet with deep barley and yeast notes. I also detect a pleasant, almost perfumy, hop aroma.
Taste 4.0: Mmm. Nice. Front is smooth and somewhat reminiscent of rose water. Warm, floral...it fills the palate with a rich, pleasing fullness. Middle shocks you back to reality with a very nice malt and caramel jolt. Finish is somewhat (unexpectedly!) dry with very pleasant hop notes and a deep and dark caramel barley hint to balance things out. Aftertaste is short, dry and refreshing, given the palate workout detailed above.
Mouthfeel: 3.75: Carbonation level is a highlight for this style of beer.
Overall 4.0: As far as grades go, this is an excellent, i.e. "4.0" pale ale. It is not, I assume, an "Indian" pale ale. This means the level of hops is not equal to that which British brewers introduced to keep beer fresh on the way to the Indian colonies. Interestingly, I take this as a less hopped IPA, which is -obviously-- just a PA. Regardless, this brew is a workhorse. It is fabulous with food but is a sessionable beer that will keep you coming back for another. Highly recommended and relatively cheap: $9 for a six.
