12 oz. bottle poured into tulip
L: very dark red for a pale ... it's amber up to a light; 100% clear; big fluffy thick head of tan foam, at least an inch, and it sticks quite a bit
S: corn tortilla chips ... suprisingly grainy
T: sweet barley, sweet grain and a twinge of hop bite ... almost tastes like German/noble hops, spicy and earthy; very subdued hop bite.
F: strong contender for perfect ... easy drinking, plenty of carbonation, enough weight to feel like a beer but still very drinkable
O: a solid brew, not a thing wrong with it. it's got to be the darkest pale ale I've tried, definitely the darkest American pale ale -- some of the English pales get this dark red/amber, but not American pales. the nose is a bit corny/grainy, but the taste is a cool mix of that grain note with some sweet barley and just enough hops to feel like an American brew.
there are better American pales, but this is just good enough that I'll likely try it again. I like the grain notes -- it almost has an Anchor Steam feel with the toasted grain taste.
