When reviewing this one has to dismiss any other Stone beers they have had before, especially of they are lovers of the hop as I am. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into my trusty affligem chalice. I love the appearance a bit darker than a "pale" ale but a beautiful two finger head and a deep orange. Nose is nice malts and slight grassy piney. No definitely not a ruination but I can enjoy a beer afterwards without having to bump up the IBU. Nice mix of British PA and California PA. Malty with a eccentric piney aftertaste. Light to medium bodied with the enduring oily hops. Overall an excellent Pale Ale. Definitely great for a sunny afternoon session without killing you for the evening. Cheers.

Pours a golden almost orange with a frothy head that leaves sheets and sheets of lacing all down the glass. Beautiful. The most beautiful lacing I have ever seen. Leaves a quite persistant head that stays forever and ever.

Smells mild, spicy citrucy.

Sweet malts all around with a modest sweetness that is quickly put into its place by the citrucy west coast hops. APAs have this quality and Stone represents it well. Quite balanced and delicious.

Medium bodied and drinkable like no other.

Dark copper color with thick foamy lingering cream-colored head. Aroma of caramel malt with floral hop tones .

Mouthfeel is smooth and silky with just a touch of carbonation. Predominance of malt early, with sweet fruit (fig) tones and clean hop finish. Surprisingly dry. Perfectly balanced sweetness and bitterness. An excellent pale ale.

Very refreshing and drinkable. Another outstanding Stone product.

A copper, amber coloration and malty head give this pale a great appearance.

After literally dipping my shnoz in the foam, I took away some subtle hops and fruitiness. A bit orangy and tangy citric.

Hops were there, but not much. A lot of zest from the fruit. Really smooth and not too much bite - just perfect.

A bit more to this beer than was expecting. The flavors are wonderful and the mouthfeel was great. Perfect carbonation and body on the palate.

Stone still doesn't seize to amaze me with their products. This is probably my new favorite pale ale. Everything seems to be moderate and perfected. Love this brew.

12 oz bottle

Appearance: Orangey with a slight haze and a very short lived head. Would like it to be more clear.

Smell: Surprising. Lots of floral hops and sweetness.

Taste: Nice bitterness up front. Hoppy but balanced with pretty assertive malt flavor and some sweetness. It finishes almost completely clean. Its very refreshing.

Mouthfeel: It lacks a little in the mouthfeel department, but its just an APA. Its not watery, just a bit thin. Again, after you swallow, you almost can't tell you just took a sip of beer.

Drinkability: I just grabbed this out of the fridge after cutting the lawn and I'm glad I did. I've never bought this before because I've always gone for Stone's "bigger" offerings. This is a great beer for what it is, and it doesnt try to be anything else. A real nice APA.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Strong white head that lasts. Cloudy light medium burnt orange cloudy.

Great balance of hops and a touch of orange sweetness. Little bit of lasting bitterness in the finish which pairs well with the citrus.

On the take home scale I would take home a six pack.

I'm certainly a fan of Stone's hop-centric offerings, but I was equally impressed with this beer, in which Stone demonstrated an abilty to hold back on the hop-horsepower while still producing a flavorful beer with bright malt flavors, tinged with caramel malt and juicy but well-balanced hop bittering. Stone managed to put quite a bit of depth into this beer, no small feat for a pale ale. A work of art.

I shouldn't be surprised coming from stone how amazingly drinkable this beer is. It is not intense and impressive lie Ruination it is assertively but not aggressively hoppy.

Appearance: Pours a beautiful amber copper color with a creamy off-white head and decent retention. Significant lacing line the glass.

Smell: Malty fruity hoppy and gentle. It is a small but friendly nose.

Taste: The taste is bigger than the nose. It is *perfectly balance with an easy feel from start to finish. Lightly toasted grain and lightly caramel flavored. Malts and brown sugar and gentle grapefruit / orange hop flavors, a top a buttery smooth center. Rich friendly delightful.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and light carbonation, dry spicy bitterness left pleasantly on the palate.

Drinkability: Simply stated I am going to look into the cost of a case. I want more.

Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!

A: Not pale, almost amber

S: Lovely Ahtanum aroma, sweet caramel malts. Hints of pepper.

T: The hops are one tone lower than the cascade not as bright but delicious, high caramel/bread sweet on the front.

M: Medium, balanced, appropriate.

O: One of the best examples of Californian APA there is. A good session or pairing beer. It is a bit on the sweet caramel side with a darker color than other APAs. I think it's wonderful and has unique character.

Man I love Stone! Pours a beautiful amber with a gorgeous creamy head. Nose is fruity and sweet. Tastes like Stone. What can I say? It just tastes great - PERFECT balance. Probably the least aggressive Stone I've had - a little more accessible to multiple bottles in one sitting. I may like more carbonation, but the beer is great either way. This and Sierra Nevada are my favorite Pale Ales, no doubt.

12oz bottle, served in a pint glass.

A - cloudy, amber color with a small white head that went away after a while, leaving no lace.

S - upfront hop aroma, but sweet smell of malt is also there.

T - very well balanced pale ale, very good taste.

M - medium bodied, crisp carbonation.

D - extremely easy drinking, very enjoyable brew.

Final Note: after having had most of what Stone has to offer, I finally tried this delicious beer... what took me so long?

I love this pale ale. It pours a nice copper-amber with a thick off-white head and excellent retention, yielding some nice lacing. The smell is light, but with a good mix of malts, fruit and hops. The taste is quite full, with complex grains and caramel sweetness, along with the classic Stone citrus notes. It has a good body and light carbonation, finishing dry, but not overly bitter. These won't last if you share then, so stock up on them!

Dense, murky, dark orange color...a thick, creamy head...
Nose is fruity, and floral, vibrant and sweet, hops are nice, mellow, and very attractive, without standing out too much. Perfectly mild pale ale aroma. Zesty and citric, nice and fresh.
Taste...very nice. All those flavors found in the nose return on the palate. A certain spiciness sticks it out right next to the easy-going fruitiness, and, if you'll allow me, I'm reminded of a barleywine flavor, but without the alcohol. Mellow and tasty, light to medium in body, pleasant finish. Extraordinarily drinkable and smooth, but never skimping on taste!
What an appealing pale ale, I'm glad that Stone has such a friendly offering to appeal to those who aren't always aching for an abundance of hops and challenging flavors, something to keep the taps flowing and the coffers filled, allowing them to make those bad bastards we all love!

Big-sized doffing of the topper to El Bummerino for providing the bomber!

Stone Pale Ale -brewed by Stone Brewing Co., with an ABV of 5.40% This brew pours out a nice, deep, golden amber color , with a nice white head. I really like the look of this brew. The smell of this pale ale is rich with hops, grins and malts. There is a nice amount of hops in the smell of this brew. Now for the taste , it is bold with flavors. You fisrt pick up on th hops in tis brew. Then you pick up on the nice smoothness of grains and malts. This brew has the look and smell of most pale ales o te market. I'm not saying that is a bad thing. Now for the tases , it is bold with flavors. You pick up on the , the hops aty first them the nice smoothest of grains and malts. Stone Plae ale has a nice balance to it, there is nothing overpowering about , this brew. Overall I'm giving Stone Pale Ale, a 4.25 out of 5. I would buy this brew again. Stone Brewing Co. , did a a nic job with this one.

Appearance - Golden amber color, little carbonation. About a quarter inch of head that quickly vanishes. This looks very inviting.

Smell - Great hops aroma, it'll perk you up a bit. Alcohol not too strong. Pretty refeshing smell.

Taste - Light bitter hops, not too harsh, quickly disappears. Kinda sweet aftertaste. Tingles your tastebuds, light carbonation. Refreshing, really enjoyable. Nice balance of bite and sweetness. Seems a bit sweeter as it warms up.

Mouthful - Pretty thin, tingly. Slick, and foams up nicely

Drinkability - Very nice beer. Not too bitter, goes down easy. I can drink this all day long. A good "go to" beer for a session.

From The Drafting Room in Exton, Pa.

This beer poured a golden yellow with a thin white head. This was a very fresh and floral tasting pale ale. I enjoyed this one a lot and has to be my favorite Pale Ale in recent history. Strong hops and grainy aroma and more fuller bodied than, say Sierra Nevada’s Pale. Nicely done, crispy and pleasantly drinkable.

If you haven't had Stone's Pale Ale you are really missing something special! This beer is not your typical Pale Ale...it is more malty than most Pale Ale's that I have had. Great brown color, lasting head, and a nice malty, yet very well balanced flavor, makes this beer stand out from the rest! If you don't like bitter/hoppy beer and stay away from Pale Ale's, do not ignore this beer. It is not hoppy by any means and yet at the same time it is not overly sweet or malty either. Stone's Pale Ale is a well balanced beer that you will enjoy over and over again!

A more relaxing brew than the last two I had from Stone(Arrogant Bastard and IPA)

A- A dark pale ale with a brown-orange color akin to maple. Decent 1-finger frothy head that leaves some decent lacing.

S- Awesome. Mostly citric grapefruit smell from the hops but the sweet, sugary malts also make and appearance

T- Taste is wonderfully balanced and great for a "meal beer" with a lighter flavor found in many pale ales. If you're looking for hops, you'll find hops; if you're looking for malts, you'll find malts; if you're looking for yeast byproducts, you'll find them.

M- Feels somewhat oily but still very refreshing.

D- Drinks good by itself and compliments foods like pizza very well.

This is one of the ultimate session beers in my opinion. On tap it is especially smoothe and crisp. It poured a nice light amber color with not much head because the bartender filled up the pint to the brim! Right off the bat I could smell the scent of floral hops and a slight spice that I cannot put my finger on. The taste was very good and reminded me a bit of the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale but with a much more balanced floral hop character and a nice malt flavor as well. Seeing as how most good bars around town have this on tap, this is now the new default beer =)

Enjoyed in a pint glass
A: Aggressive pour yields 1 finger of white head with nice retention. Clear red-amber liquid. Pretty!
S: Nice malt up front - bread and butter/buttery waffles with mellow hops behind.
T: Bitter in a strong herbal way - Cascade and Euro hops? Very nice malt sweetness also. This tastes like a hoppy Bitter, maybe an ESB or an English IPA. I would give it a 4.5 if it was an EIPA or ESB. it is not really hoppy enough to be an APA. Full flavor and delicious regardless though.
M: Very nice carbonation level. Full body. No heat. Nice dry bitterness.
D: This is a session beer all the way. Great flavor for such an easy drinker.

Edit 7/27/2013:
Had a bottle 3 months shy of it's best by date. Strongly bitter flavor in a grapefruit rind kind of way with hints of Arrogant Bastard in the finish. Not balanced enough to be sessionable - quite aggressive! Enjoyable still. Would give it a 4.25 as a "had".

the truth of all craft beer, this brewery, -clap, clap...- has an alternative graphic image, screeenprinted bottles, and its beers are really from the "el otro lado", not like the same thing -bud, bud light, miller, and others like this-, with an abuse of adjuncts and aditives, like corn, rice etc. i try this in a pint glass of course, a great taste, exceptional for me, good lacing, smell over flower hops, and disctinctive hops mouthfeel, at last, this is a good beer in the wide offer of craft beers, 92% recommended.

good save the gargoyle.

Served in the 22 oz. bomber, into a pint glass. The color is amber, with a white foamy head that doesn't seem to want to go anywhere. The smell is a nice hoppiness. The taste is a nice citrus hoppiness with a good and noticable caramel malt in the background. Mouthfeel is average. As for drinkability, I could have this one all day long.

This was one that I've wanted to try for a long time, and now that I have, I'm glad I did. Stone creates another classic, and a truely great session beer. Simply fantastic, and one I'd certainly have again, and a candidate for a session beer for me.

From bomber to glass. Just sat down for lunch. The wife made me a dual cheese turkey sandwich (cheddar AND pepperjack, God bless her). And I'm predisposed to thinking Stone beer rules. This is going to be a good lunch.

Pour a perfect bronze copper meld. Beautiful head. Retention, lacing, adorable!

Smells like good beer. Some caramel, light hops. I just know this is gonna be delicious.

I was right-delicious. The hops are a bit subdued for Stone but great flavor anyway.

Ridiculously drinkable. Seriously, I want to give it a 5.5 - it will probably be gone before my sandwich. I can't help it; good stuff.

OK, so I finished the sandwich first. Left with about 6 oz to enjoy while typing in my review.

Who the hell invented this hobby? They should be knighted! Or sainted! Or at least pat on the back. I say 2012 Olympic Beer Brewing! Who do I have to kill to be a judge?

Overall: You'll be sorry if you buy only one bottle.

Stone Pale Ale has a thin, cream-colored head, a good amount of lacing, and a hazy (after I swirled & poured in the sediment), orange appearance. The aroma is of hops, water, and bready sweetness. Taste is of piney, resinous hops, slight citrus, a little sweetness, and some faint bread. Mouthfeel is soft and medium, and Stone Pale Ale finishes refreshing, easy drinking, and mild. Overall, this is a nice, pleasant ale, and I think you should try it.
