My first sampling from the Stone brewery. Needless to say, I was more than impressed.
22 oz. brown bottle with all the printing etched into the bottle in green and white lettering. 6.9% alcohol. It's nice to know that the gargoyle on the label "wards off modern day evil spirits such as chemical preservatives, additives, and adjuncts." Who wants evil spirits in their....spirits?
Appearance: Poured a clear dark copper with a generous 2" thick frothy white head. Stuck to the sides of my glass quite nicely.
Aroma: Hmmmm.....how should I put it? Hoppy. Yes. Hoppy. Citrus-laced hops nuking your nose. Does that adequately describe it?
Taste: As can imagine, the hops win the "hops vs. malt" contest in this offering. Very crisp and decadent hop character drenches this beer. If you don't like (an obscene amount of) hops, then avoid this beer. An outstanding IPA. Definitely my favorite.
Drinkability: For a 6.9% beer, I could drink this all day. There's a little warming effect from it, but nothing to keep you ordering another...and another...and another.
I can't wait to try the other Stone beers I recently purchased. With an arrogant bastard, double bastard, and ruination IPA waiting to be consumed, I may be bitter the rest of this year.
