On tap at Stone Brewery in Escondido, CA.
A: Poured a translucent, golden color with a good inch of thick, creamy head atop that seems to last forever and leaves plenty of lacing around the glass as you drink. Carbonation levels are great.
S: The aroma smacks of fresh citrus and pine hops with a little bit of grass. Pretty one-sided, but enticing.
T: Taste follows the nose: entirely hop-centric, sure to please hop-heads and those familiar with West Coast IPA's, but also some barley present, though not as predominantly as in the pale ale. I could use a bit more balance. A bit piney for me as well, but better on tap than in the bottle.
M: Medium bodied, smooth and creamy mouthfeel with ample carbonation and a bit of substance. Very drinkable.
O: Exactly what was to be expected, this is the flagship American West Coast IPA and the one that all others will be judged on. That said, I prefer a bit more balance in my IPA's as well as the more grapefruit, citrus oriented hops, but I would never turn one of these down. Cheers!

12oz bottle into pint glass. Enjoy by 9/9/14
re-reviewed from 11/5/11, coz I like to think I know more now. (Jury still out on that)
Golden yellow with a small white head. Good carbonation & lacing.
Not getting much of anything on the nose.
Taste was a very good blending of the hops and malt, just enough of a hop bite to let you know it's there, with a sweet malt wash throughout the mouth.
Mouth was medium with a persisting sour bitterness on the back of the mouth.
Overall, a good and tasty IPA

A: hmmm. Nice head, with decent retention. Pristine copper to bronze color, with respectable lacing.
S: big hop aroma. The nose is dry and forcasts the hoppiness to come. Not very floral or piney, or even citrus, but full of hops nonetheless.a little alcohol.
T: dry as the sahara desert. No sweet maltiness here. The hoppiness and bitterness is driving this bus and we're along for the ride. Grass, pine, and pith are at the forefront, with some spices in the rear, to bring it all home. This is an IP
A to please those that love IPAs.
M: light to medium, lingering, with a medium carbonation.
O: dry, bitter, and full of hoppy charachter that is quintessential of the style, without being a characiture. This is good to great, but not exceptional.
