A: This IPA pours a 1 finger white head that dissipates to a thin long standing froth. Very nice lacing and a golden to light amber color. Somewhat clear but not crystal. A slight bit of turbidity.
S: This beer reminds me of the smell I get just as I toss my bittering hops into the boil of a batch of wort. An immediately intense hoppy aroma. Nice citrusy, spiciness with beautiful grapefruit character. A very fresh hoppy extravaganza. All the while, the malt sweetness fills in the background.
T: The first thing that you taste is the sweetness of the malt as it rolls across the tongue, quickly followed by a slight acidity from what I feel are the salt additions you would expect in an IPA and the bitter bite from the hops. The sweetness lives on the tongue as the hoppy goodness fills the nose with a complex taste experience. I like that the hops don't attack you too quickly allowing you to enjoy a glimpse of malty goodness, a hallmark of Stone's IPA's in my opinion. After a few seconds you get a moderate bitterness that lingers but in a good way.
M: moderate mouthfeel with a borderline slick feel that probably comes from an abundance of hop resins.
O: A beautiful creation that allows you to find the malt sweetness without missing the hoppy goodness. For me, this beer is a great choice for those who don't consider themselves 'hopheads' . It is definitely a hop forward libation but it gives you a glimpse of the underlying grains that are the groundwork of a good IPA.
