I have always been skeptical about the Stone beers, but the Stone IPA is starting to turn me into a convert.
Poured the beer into a pint glass, it had almost no head and the off-white head that did form was gone in less than 30 seconds. The color is a light, golden brown.
I love the smell of this beer. It is just oozes thick, rich, hoppy, DANK, aroma. One of the better smelling beers I've encountered (keep in mind California IPA's are historically my ideal beer).
The overall flavor is excellent. It is bitter, spicy, hoppy, dank, full-bodied with an aftertaste that lingers in a good way. No alcohol flavor, which is surprising considering how strong this stuff is. I would have ranked it higher, but I did notice a slight mildew flavor in the finish, which may be the brew, or perhaps a slightly off batch. Pleasant, spicy mouthfeel and good drinkability.

There may be no other IPA that so confidently displays what it means to be "west coast". Its premier and dedicated focus on hop bitterness is supported by the perfect type of barley malt- the nonexistent type!
Its nose-piercing scent of hops take center stage with the strong presence of white grapefruit, tangy orange peel, fresh-cut grass and an overall aura of resinous pine. And upon the first drink, the mouth dries and waters at the same time; contending with the full brunt of hop flavor and yearning for refreshment.
The middle offers up a malty-dry taste and texture that's of faint caramel and thin honey, but with a wafer-thin light bread texture. As the palate acclimates to the tongue-sweating hop dominance, its floral and fruity periphery show fleeting glimpses.
As the bottom falls out of the malts, its sweetness recedes quickly and allows the hops to develop into a smoothly resinous bittering, that intensifies to the proportions of freshly torn pine needles, bark and sap. Still, its pithy citrus sharpness ensures a high level of refreshment and drinkability as the ale concludes with resolute dryness.
