(Hop)ing to get in a few IPAs as the hot weather remains in AZ. Poured this beer into an English pub glass. The first thing I noticed was the smell. Man, does this thing have zesty citrusy hop smell coming from it. A creamy two finger head formed with a hazy yellow color in the beer itself.
Once I got my nose in the glass I noticed that the citrusy hops had a piney smell behind them too. There is so much hop aroma that it is impossible to smell the malt. Dry hopping must have been done. This is how an IPA should smell.
The taste of this beer however is subpar. Maybe I am not as much of a hop head as most beer advocates. I love hoppy flavor, but this one is over the top. The bitterness is like chewing on an orange peel with no sweetness to balance it out. It is nice and creamy going down. But once the drink is down the palate gets dry from the 6.9% abv.
This beer would be good when I desire something extremely bitter, with a lovely hop aroma. However, this beer isn't something that I would go out and get a 6 pack of.
