This is one of my all time favorites - drunk it forever, realized I never reviewed it:

An inviting light orange in appearance - crystal clear and well carbonated. Head retention is wonderful on these.

The smell is herbal and of pine; like being on the edge of a field with your nose in the forest.

The taste is sensational - one of the most iconic American IPAs available. Completely balanced, drinkable, and hoppy - this has served as a "gateway beer" to many of my former non-beer friends.

Long live Stone and this all time great.

On tap at the Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel. Served in a globe pilsner glass.

Appearance: Hazy orange/yellow/copper color, with lots and lots off-white foam and persistent lacing. Persistent head and the lacing came in strands and sheets. Nice looking beer.

Smell: Mostly orange citrus, with a hint of pine thrown in and maybe, just maybe, some grapefruit, but mostly orange citrus hop smell dominating here. A highly pleasant orange smell to boot.

Taste: The perfect blending of orange citrus hops and malt sweetness to balance it out. Hoppy, but just right hop bitterness to come out as refreshing, but not crisp. Very solid malt backbone in here.

Mouthfeel: Just right carbonation, not terribly thick, and not a lot of hop oil sticking to the teeth (to my surprise). Nothing amazing, but certainly good for the style.

Overall / Drinkability: A very good AIPA and quite drinkable. I had two of these in short order with a grilled salmon and crab cake dinner. I could even argue dangerously drinkable as after two I wouldn't mind a third but I know better. A very fine AIPA. I can see why it is rated as high as it is, and I think on tap it's even better than it is in the bottle from when I previously reviewed it.

A- Hmm, golden orange color, very cloudy, presumably from dry hops, although it is so cloudy it must be unfiltered. The color is interesting to me, I'm used to the copper color you get from an IPA. Not much of a head to speak of.

S- Pine and grapefruit, not overpowering, the low carbonation probably leads to the lower amount of aroma. Sweet as well, maybe a bit orangy.
T- Definite amount of hop bitterness. The malt sweetness and hop finish balance each other out and leave the beer feeling crisp and clean. A bit grassy at the end. An orange-lemon finish also balances this grassiness, maybe even some faint banana undertones. Refreshing actually.

M- Medium-low mouthfeel, a bit thinner than I'd hoped for. Perky carbonation, prickly on the tongue. Interesting how the carbonation comes through in taste but not in appearance..

O- This is a nice beer, refreshing, tasty, easy to drink for 6.9%. I would have liked a bit more on the aroma and mouthfeel. I should note this is from a bottle from craft beer exchange, possibly this is a bit older than it should be, not bottle dated.

Stone IPA - I've had this a couple times and always loved it. Time to rate it. Easy-to-drink, just the right level of hops and type of hops for me. Flavorful without being too aggressive. Great beer.

Pours a dark yellow color with plenty of carbonation and a very nice white head. Excellent retention and lacing.

Smell is citrus hops, a touch of honey, a touch of bananas.

A well balanced IPA - it is only slightly bitter and there's plenty of malt to balance things out. Taste is orange & banana hops, a touch of grassiness, and some sweetness. I prefer citrusy hops to piney ones, and this beer is more citrusy than piney.

To quibble, the mouthfeel could be a little more dense. But then, I am spoiled because I had Ruination last night and loved the creaminess.

Very, very drinkable. An excellent beer.

The appearance is very nice, dark rich golden with a thick head. Poured into a cold pint glass, the smell was a strong hop smell with grapefruit after. The taste was real hoppy(lucky I love the hoppy flavor!) and the citrus(grapefruit was right there) It is smooth on the way down, love it!

Overall this a a great beer. really recommend!
