Not as balanced as I'd like. Bitter Ness heavy and some top-hop flavor but missing in the middle.

I was expecting more out of this. I've had it in the past prior to my craft evolution and thought it was better then. Palate has definitely changed over the years.

12 oz bottle.

Appearance - Pours a hazy apricot with a finger of foamy white head.

Smell - citrus and piney hops, tropical fruits (passionfruit, mango), citrus, grapefruit peel, hint of pine resin, bready caramalts.

Taste - Starts off with a nice pungent hit from the citrus and piney hops then goes into the tropical fruits (passionfruit, mango), citrus, grapefruit peel, bready caramalts and hint of pine resin.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes with a pleasant lingering bitterness from the citrus and piney hops.

Overall - A stellar American IPA. A solid hop profile. This is my kind of IPA. All the hopheads out there will be happy this one.

Super IPA. Ultra smooth. Personal favorite. IMO, this is a new standard...like SA Boston Lager was in the 80s.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle to a snifter.

A: Deep orange with slight haze. A thin head forms at the top.
S: Strong smell of orange peel and other bright citrus.
T: Starts off sweet with a strong malt base. Citrusy hops coming in midway. Dank hop flavors peek through, bringing in added pine, grapefruit, and tropical fruits. Finishes dry, leaving an aftertaste for a few seconds.
M: Medium. Aftertaste lingers a little longer than expected.
O: Very nice strong IPA. Reminds me of a weak Imperial IPA.

A fairly aggressive pour from a bomber into a shaker pint produced about a one inch chunky, sticky head that really sticks to the glass. The beer is a hazy, ruddy golden and moderately carbonated.

It doesn't have a super strong hop bomb aroma- more like a complex, unique blend of floral characters, star fruit, pineapple and citrus. The tropical fruit flavors also shine through in the flavor. Underneath everything is a nice malt base suggesting light caramel. It's medium bodied with a lingering herbal bitterness in the aftertaste.

Even though I complain alot about American IPAs, I sure seem to drink plenty of them. This is a subtle and unique example and well worth a try. This bomber was marked down from about 5 1/2 bucks down to 4 bucks.

Very good and balanced IPA...with above avg ABV... I heard they are opening up a brewery in Belgium...wow... I admire the cajones, and I do think it will do well over there... maybe after some initial resistance... there is not much they can pick apart in this IPA if they actually taste it...

Poured into a Perfect Pint glass. Thanks, John M.

A: Opaque gold with an off-white one-finger head with retention. Curtain-y lacing.

S: Piney hops, grapefruit, light malts.

T: After reading the description, I was a bit leery of the bitter hop action. But this IPA is very smooth and balanced and highly drinkable. Grapefruit and pine slide in with a malty backbone. Citrus-y with some fruity notes. Just terrific. Very sessionable.

M: Medium with medium, dry carbonation.

O: Another gem from the Gorgoyle. Sold, smooth and easy to swallow. More, please.

Love the way it's marketed. Really drawn to the smell and the bitter bite of the hops. Outstanding!

More bitter that hoppy. I am use to the beers that showcases the hops more

Look - poured from 12 oz. bottle into a standard pint glass. Pours a dark gold with a one finger white creamy head that just stays there throughout. Lacing is fantastic. Hard-pressed to find a better looking beer (especially the head).

Smell - notes of grapefruit, citrus, raisins, and bready maltiness.

Taste - the hops didn't really hit me up front. Goes down very smooth. The finish is very long-lasting and bitter hops really come on here. Nice bitterness that persists for a very long time.

Feel - you can argue about what the finish does for you. I find it savory for a while but it goes on a bit long for my taste, resulting in an interesting mouthfeel. I feel like it desensitized me from what could have been the full experience. My only major complaint.

Overall - one of the best looking beers you will find. I'd definitely drink it again many times over but I prefer other IPA's and other Stone offerings out there. They are a fantastic brewery.

Excellent spicy aroma with slight citrus. Spicy hop flavor, medium, body with nice dry hop spice aftertaste. Gold standard for a good ipa.

A classic in the west coast IPA style, light on the malts and a heavy dose of bitterness that lingers from the hop profile. Glassy, green, fresh taste with a grapefruit flavor. Great sipper but the bite of the beer can sometimes fatigue the pallet.

Almost hard to believe I've never said anything on this beer until now.
I've always had this in a pint glass and for today once again, yes in a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. Light foamy lacing clings but trickles after a while.
The smell had a sharp pine assault of bitter hops with a light spice intertwining in and out on the aroma.
The taste copied the smell and carried a nice bitter pine into the spice of this beer. Light pine to spicy aftertaste lead to a dry finish.
The mouthfeel had a light to medium bodied sessionable dry spiciness rolling over my tongue.
Overall, I say this has and always will be a go to for me as an AIPA. Its hard not to find practically anywhere.

Its alright. Don't understand the hype but they are a top notch brewery this just ain't enough citrus or any fruity hop presence enough for me to purchase again.

There is another brand that bills itself as quite possibly the best IPA in America. It isn't. This isn't either. But it comes damn close. The one that started the hop addiction in San Diego and beyond is just a world class IPA, though.

Poured from a tap at some unmentionable chain that thankfully has decent craft brew on tap. Pint glass a little too cold (in a chain restaurant, really?). Beautiful orange hue with what was likely a white head that was gone by the time I got it. Once at temp, the hop aroma was just delicious. Some mild citrus and pine with a floral backing. The flavor matched perfectly with a more intense version of the aroma, only this was balanced by some nice maltiness that did just that: balanced without taking over. Understated nicely, not lost, to let the hops serve as showcase.

Seriously, world class stuff.

Very dissapointing considering other reviews, too bitter, and I don't mean good bitter, bad aftertaste.
