Corked and caged bottle poured into a snifter.

(A)- Pours a cloudy caramel colored amber. Minimal tan froth.

(S)- A nicely dry oaky white wine nuance up front. Ever so slight funk from the barrel.

(T)- Slightly sweet but with the nice dry white wine oaky barrel hint. Base beer is well hidden.

(M)- A good carbonation level and balance. Sweet, but showing the white wine barrel alot.

(O)- I like this take on the base beer, but wished it showed itself a bit more than it is.

500ml C&C bottle poured into a Duvel tulip.

A - Pours hazy and actually rather murky with a dirty, brownish amber color and a dense, cream colored finger of foam with good staying power. No real lacing to speak of on the glass.

S - White wine is evident on the aroma - tart and acidic and appley. A touch of buttery caramel, some cinnamon, plenty of oak - woody and earthy with vanilla touches.

T - Fairly hoppy and bitter up front, lots of woody barrel flavor, some spicy Belgian-y yeastiness, firm malt background - bready, caramelly, mildly sweet. Chili flavor comes thru with a delicate character and extremely faint peppery luke-warmth. Wine barrel adds some apple fruity and tart contributions. This certainly has a lot going on...not sure if it is good or not though - I am enjoying sips to varying degrees ranging from so-so/ok to kinda liking it.

M - Lightish medium body with mid-level foamy carbonation. Woody oak flavors come thru heavy and push towards the forefront. Interesting mix of sweet, spicy, tart, bitter, earthy - a little bit of everything happening in this one. At some points the wood overwhelms my palate...others the white wine flavors and tartness are pretty satisfying.

O - Interesting experiment...glad to be able to try it. I don't remember the regular 11.11.11 experience that well - came late in the Vertical Epic series tasting, so not sure exactly what the barrel did to this beer. The woody oak comes thru heavy and the white wine flavors are noticeable in the profile...beyond that, any changes from age/oxidation are beyond my recollective powers. Didn't love it...didn't hate it - interesting experiment, which is always fun to try, but I think I'm good with the singular experience of this beer.
