I read a few reviews prior to drinking this great brew which helped me interpret its complex delicious tastes.
Firstly I couldn't really detect the smokey part in the taste despite being able to smell smoke-like hints in the aroma. In the end I decided that the slightly alcoholic esters at that are felt towards the end of the swallow was the smokiness intended to be tasted in this beer.
Overall I loved this beer. The roasted malts lent themselves to delectable chocolate and coffee notes like a rich cafe latte. Despite its mouthfeel being on the heavy side (which I like) this bodacious brew was very drinkable.
Thanks Stone Brewing Company for another amazing beer!!!

First smoked beer that I've tried, but certainly not my first porter.
A: Poured into my Sierra Nevada branded hop tulip imperial pint glass. Only one finger of tawny head that quickly settles to a thin cap from an aggressive pour. Deep dark brown color that will let strong light through. I can see lots of floaties in the glass. Moderate lacing that less than expected. Looks scrumptious.
S: Strong peat , so strong that I'm having a hard time getting to the other aromas. Wood smoke, cocoa, milk chocolate, and some vanilla. Sweet and inviting. Smells like sitting around a fireplace, inside of an old cabin, in the forest, at Xmas time. I'm not getting the coffee that most other reviewers noted. A hint of dark fruits.
T: Once again strong peat that encompasses wood smoke and dark chocolate. Not nearly as sweet as it smells. No fruits to speak of. Strong charcoal. Reminds me of Irish Dry Stout, specifically Guinness Extra Stout. Starts bittersweet and quickly leads to a strong, drying bitterness that lasts well after swallowing.
M: Carbonation is perfectly moderate with a tight feel. Creamy. Tea-like drying is strong. Substantialness is spot-on.
O: Mind = Blown
