Appears black, but held to light shows a high degree of clarity with ruby brown highlights. Modest tan head dissipates leaving lots of lacing.

This is tasty stuff, has a very light mouthfeel compared to other porters. Well balanced, and very smooth.

With this relatively low ABV, this a great brew to spend a cold winter night with.

Served from a 22oz. bomber at about 55 degrees.
Appearance - Black with a cream tan froth. Good head retention.
Smell - The roasted malts string out of the pint with dark chocolate notes and a subtle, but easily detected, smoke character.
Taste - The smoke definitely leads the pack over the palate with those chocolate malts that I detected on the nose.
Drinkablitiy - Dangerously smooth. Do yourself a favor and buy this beer.
(This makes a fantastic base for a dark chocolate & black pepper marinade.)

so i won't lie...when i first took a taste i was looking for more...BUT, don't give up on it because the complexity of this brew is simply amazing...a smokey start which is almost burnt to the taste buds...pours a dark and light looking brew with a khaki colored head...gets very complex: licorice, smoked, and a very nice hint of caramel which makes it sweet to taste...

i really think you're going to enjoy this beer...cheers to it...one of the better smoked porters you'll have...

Pours a nearly completely black color, if you look at it at an angle you can see a slight red hinge, has a big offwhite head that actually laces quite a bit. Smell is of sweet sweet delicious bacon, its like walking into an German meat market, i love it. Taste is wonderful, an absolute delight. Has of course a wonderful rich malt flavor and the smoke flavor is really noticeable as well. Mouthfeel is wonderful as well, just a great porter.

A- Pours a dark dark cloudy brown color with a substantial two finger width light tan frothy head. Nice tight bubbles build to form the head. A lot of lacing sticks and stays on the glass.

S- Big roasty malt aromas mixed with chocolate and sugary notes. The roasted malt aroma is beautiful in this one.

T- Wonderful balance of characteristic flavors. Roasted malts, sugars and chocolates all blend into on smooth and warming taste. Alcohol is masked by the rich flavors. Nice bitterness at the end from the hops.

M- Here's where it gets very interesting. From the look I would suspect this would have a heavy body. Not the case. The smooth and silky texture plus the balance of flavors make this beer an very easy drinker for me.
D- Surprisingly very easy to drink. I love porters and stouts and I will most definitely come back to this one again.

Deep amber reddish hue surrounds the black color. Tan, somewhat creamy one-finger head, which quickly dissipated.

Absolutely wonderful smell - sweet caramel was the first thing I noticed, followed by black licorice, and as it warmed, noted the charred, smokey wood.

Definite coffee flavor - some hints of irish coffee, with a light smokey aftertaste and a little cherry bite as it warmed.

So smooth, with just the right amount of carbonation. Slight smokey aftertaste on the tongue.

This beer was incredibly drinkable.

Black, with traces of mahogany around the edges and bottom of the glass; a chocolate milk like head, with a decent and invigorating nose of roasted malts, chocolate and dark roast coffee beans. Creamy, tenderly slick; coffee roast flavors are couples with some charcoal and burnt toast. The palate is rich and clean, with dark chocolate and just a touch of bitterness. A long, lingering and nice smoky feeling going on here. Very nice; an absolute stellar porter, to be expected from Stone.

S - 22 oz. bomber thanks much to beerbeing for this gem.

A - Pours a black with brown edges and a small garnet center, head is a light khaki that sticks well. Looks like I'm in for a treat.

S - Smoke, caramel, chocolate, malted grains, smells great.

T - Smokey and sweet, chocolate, caramel, nutty undertones. just great.

M - This is what a porter should feel like.

D - I wish I had a self replenishing supply in my refrigerator. Unfortunately Stone doesnt distribute in MO.

poured from a 22oz bottle into a standard pint glass.

A: dark brown in color with a huge off-white head. excellent lacing.

S: roasted grains, dark-roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and an underlying smokiness.

T: lots of roast like character in the taste. you get a good blend of smoke, roasted coffee, hints of chocolate, and a slightly bitter finish.

MF: thick and chewy, moderate carbonation, feels like velvet in the mouth.

Drinkability: well done, one of my favorites.

Once again Stone has the head that won't quit. Beautiful lacing all the way to the end.Has a smokey charcoal aroma with a hint of peat. Carbonation is just perfect and such a smooth feel on the tongue. Here's where it gets interesting. Shared this with two friends and they just kept going back and forth on the flavors that kept coming through. Roasted, toasted barley, hops comes to the palate for a brief visit only to be replaced with perhaps a caramel but I think chocolate. Stone just keeps our minds working with the combinations of flavors in all of their brews. Definely one of the best Porters I've ever had. If you missed this one, you're missing the boat!!!

I finally bought this on-line. It is not available in SA and I got frustrated reading and hearing so many good things about it.
The beer poured out a deep dark brown with a little ruby tint when held up to the light. A 1" tan head rolled away quickly and left little lacing. Beautiful beer.
The smell at first was all about the roasted malt. Some coffee and earth aromas were prevelant. When I let the beer warm up I began to get the smoky smell out of it, maybe smoked meat or a light bacon. Very nice!
The taste was love at first sip!!! This beer is outstanding. Wonderful roasted, earthy, coffee flavors followed by a NICE smooth chocolaty touch. The porter seems very lightly hopped to me, there is a nice bitter finish that hangs around for a long time.
The mouthfeel was incredible. Smooth and velvety, it don't get no better than this!!!
I would enjoy this on a very regular basis if it was available to me. This is a bad mofo!!! If you like Porters, you need to try this.

GLASS: Arrogant Bastard Pint Glass
TEMP: Cellared @ approx 50 degrees

Dark, dark ruby color. Appears black at first. Nice easy pour produces a frickin' huge head of dense tan foam, which has hellish retention. Will it ever go away? Wow. Impressive for sure, but almost too much. Lacing is nice and sticky.

Big chocolatey malts. A touch of smoke. Light hint of some hop spiciness. Hints of caramel and dark fruits. Big earthiness quality.
A fairly complex nose.

Big flavor of roasted malt. Underlying hint of smokiness, not nearly as much as I expected. Sweetness of vanilla and caramel. Nice earthy quality here, also. Very slight hops bite. Light chocolate and coffee notes. Hints of dark fruits.

Good solid medium boby. Good level of creaminess.

This is an excellent porter, overall. I would drink many of these, and often, if given the opportunity.
Not as smoky as may have been expected, but a very good offering from Stone, nonetheless.

Pored from a twenty four oz. bottle this beer Gave an amaizing amount of head holy shit three fingers of head that came up over the top of my mug ( I need a bigger mug because I can't fit a 24 with this much head in it!!!) about a finger!!! SO MUCH HEAD!!! Gotta love good head!

Smell coming off of this beer was malty chared goodness.

Taste was a wonderful mix of smoke and cocoa.

Feel Very smooth I may have poured this one a little hard but it went down excellently with my Sheppard's pie!

I wouldn't session this beer it is to special to cheapen I think it needs to be a special occasions beer. EXCELLENT BREW!!!

A= nearly dark black, almost like a Schwarzbier. Very little head with careful pouring.

S= modest hints of smoke overpowered by huge dry dark Swiss chocolate and some coffee, hints of toffee and grassy malts. Massive hops nose.

T= dark Swiss chocolate and dry coffee, modest typical west-coast trendy piney hops flavor and bite, the smoked flavor is only slightly apparent to my mild disappointment.

M= dry chocolate and coffee with a zing of hops florals and bitters.

D= very drinkable, probably more so with desserts and chocolate etc. than with most meals. Great on its own as a dessert, though.

I really enjoyed this smoked porter. Reminds me of sitting with friends around a bonfire. It's very simple, and definitely a go to beer. Not to complex but very friendly to the senses! Poured very smooth. Light hints of bitter chocolate and dark coffee.

2011 bottle opened in Oct 2013

A - Cola brown body with ruby highlights. Creamy, light tan head with great lace and nice retention.

S - Soft mesquite wood and pork rib smoke, marshmallow, molasses.

T - Smooth and mellow with a soft complexity. Burnt toast, smoked bacon, caramel, molasses, vanilla, peanut butter.

M - Silky smooth, medium frame. Almost perfect for a porter. Incredible staying power.

O - An absolutely outstanding porter. The two years did the bottle well, but I'd have to say that it drinks almost as well fresh.

Enjoyed in my stone pint glass

A: pours a deep dark brown color verging on black, shows a small amount of light through when held up to the light, pours with two fingers of thick frothy head that is light brown with large bubbles and lingers beautifully, leaves tons of lacing on the glass
S: beautiful sweet chocolate malts and a slight underlying coffee malt scent, overall a really pleasant nose on this one, everything i hope to see with a porter
T: great taste, hits first with the sweetness of the chocolate malts then moves into a bit of smoked wood flavor and also something like hickory smoked bacon, nice but a bit intense, and finishes with a nice smoothness of coffee malts
M: gentle carbonation, thick on the palate, leaves the mouth feeling dry like after sitting around a camp fire for too long
O: a great smoked porter, would have liked to see a bit of a better feeling on the palate and a little bit less of an intense baconish flavor, i know it is a smoked porter but im allowed to be picky

A- I can honestly say I've never seen a beer that looks like this in the glass. It is a rich brownish red on the outside and almost black in the middle. Poured an awesome 2 finger head. Great lacing.

S- I swear I smell grapes! Also dark chocolate, a touch of coffee, nuts, and soft pine. Grape smell morphed more into raisin as it warmed. Overall, a little on the light side.

T- Sweet up front - almost like light orange meets coffee and caramel. Shifts into mix of caramel, dark chocolate, and smoke, then fades to earthy hop, grapefruit, pine, and burnt wood. A different flavor stands out with each sip.

M- Medium-thick bodied with nice, crisp carbonation. Smooth, lightly viscous, and drying. This is what I wish all Porters felt like.

O- Stone is my favorite brewery for a reason. All four categories are brilliantly crafted and mix together to create one hell of a Porter here. Each sip shifts focus to somewhere else. The back of the bottle hits the nail on the head by saying, "Stone Smoked Porter is mysterious, smoky, and verging on utterly decadent". I'll be having many more times to come.

What an ubelievable beer. Poured into clear pint glass, the richness of this brew is aparent immediately. Nice tan lace cascades down the glass until the end. You can smell the dark malt and smokiness, but it is not overwhelming nor distracting. I could not get over the taste. Rich and deep, all I can say it is the essence of what a porter should taste like. Chewy and fulfilling, it is certianly one of my favorite porters.

Ice cream like head of four fingers. Had to wait for some time before I could get to the beer. Lace for a week, clings like glue. Color is a 39 on the SRM beer color chart. Smell is coffee, chocolate, smoke, toffee, and malt. Taste is very intense roasted coffee, dark chocolate, black strap molasses, toffee, and malt. Smoke flavor and feeling in the back of my throat. Big mouthfeel, chewy, full, thick. This is one of my favorite styles of beer, and this as a good one. Got to have more of this one.

Pours a black color with a tan head that's about 1/2" thick. The head receded to the surface rather quickly, but that stuck around a while. Some lacing developed too. The aroma is of coffee and burnt wood. The flavor has coffee, molasses, licorice, pepper, and a hint of burnt chocolate. The smokiness is just right, not overpowering and it adds to the flavor.

The mouthfeel is smooth with a slight dry aftertaste. The smokiness and coffee tones last long on the tongue after swallowing. This is one of the better smoked brews I have ever sampled.

I am fairly skeptical of Porters generally because I feel that they are hard to pull off. The Smoked Porter from Stone definitely does a good job and keeps the smokiness genuine without overdoing it. This is a great sipping beer and very nuanced. Highly recommend.

It's a bitter cold evening at the WoodBrew household...just had an incredible dinner...and had a hankerin for something delicious...SCORE!!! Stone SMOKED Porter was a perfect dessert!!! This porter is fantastic the full flavor is perfect against 5.9% ABV. The beer poured into my glass with a beautiful creamy head, which led to perfect lacing just like on a lingerie model!!! The taste has a rich malt character balanced by a nice subtle smoke. I could drink this all night...but not in a binge type fashion. Strongly recommend this to all my hommies!!!

Poured this from a bomber into a pint glass.

A: Darkish brown coloring with a good bit of head that stuck around. Very nice lacing.

S: Coffee and malt flavors come out in this. More malty than anything to me.

T: Great taste! Coffee and cola flavors mix in with a nice aftertaste. This is a nice one to hold in your mouth and even after you swallow the taste stays with you. Excellent.

M: A bit bitter feel in the mouth. The same feel eating good chocolate leaves you.

D: Great price and decent ABV on these will make this one a winter favorite of mine. Heck, I might make it an end of summer/autumn favorite too! :)

Appearance: Very dark brown, but clear enough that a little light gets through the glass. Head is thick and with a tan color.
Smell: roasted malt with a little chocolate. The smoke is there but not overpowering.
Taste: Again roasted malt primarily. The smokiness appears late and lingers on the tongue.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied.
Drinkability: A well-balanced very drinkable stout. Not the best I've had, but certainly one that I always enjoy drinking.
