Another solid beer from Stone Brewing:

Dark brown pour, with a lighter color head.

Roasted is a very good description of this beer. Its probably the best "Smoked Porter" I have personally had. You really get that smoked smell and taste. Everything a smoked porter should be.

Its a heavy looking beer but really is a smooth mouthfeel with very nice finish and after taste.

A dark brown beer with subtle reddish highlights that’s nearly but not quite totally opaque. Lighter than most porters, in fact. Nice creamy head with decent retention; good lacing remains.

Subtly smoky in both aroma and taste; this aspect doesn’t overwhelm the other flavors, instead blending with the roasted and lightly sweet notes very well. There are also touches of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Faintly bitter and floral hop presence comes out mostly in the finish. I actually wanted a bit more of everything and found it just a little too light in the end flavor-wise.

Easy to drink, with a moderately creamy, medium-thin body and measured carbonation. A smoked beer for those who are a bit smoke-averse.

i reviewed this before but i think it was purged or something. whatever.

a: pours black in color, almost completely opaque with a thick and fluffy off-white head that sticks to the glass for quite some time.

s: pretty weak aroma with subtle notes of roasted malts. not much else to speak of. surprised there isn't more smoke in the nose.

t: lots of roasted malt flavor up front with a hint bittersweet chocolate and subtle hop grassy character. again, where's the smoke here? i understand the idea that you don't want this to be over the top smokey, but give me something to work with here. if you blind folded me i probably wouldn't have guessed this was a smoked porter. maybe this is just my rauchbier-loving side coming out, but this could've used a heavier hand on the smoked malt.

m: nice and smooth mouthfeel.

a solid porter that's pretty well balanced but i definitely wish there was more smoke flavor. give this a shot if you're looking for a good american-style porter but go buy some Schlenkerla if you're looking for something smokey.
