Tulip glass.

A: Pours very dark, opaque brown, with a finger of whispy, light khaki head. Very good retention and lots of lacing.

S: Predominately dark roasted malt, some smoke, and also vanilla and cream. The smokiness is actually pretty subtle on the nose.

T: Smoked malt, at a good level and without being overpowering, an undertone of chocolate, a little sourish coffee on the finish. Simple and tasty.

M: Medium-light body and light carbonation.

O: Very drinkable. I like that the smoke is present but not overboard. As always, Stone gives a great value. I'm not used to buying bombers this cheap (less than $5).

Served in a wellington beer glass.

Appearance: Almost opaque black-brown, not too bubbly (good thing) with a tan head rising to maybe a 1/4" settles to nothing after a sip.

Smell: Light chocolate, very bland and nothing to wow for.

Taste: Little bitter not a bad thing. Hints of chocolate, almost floral like and light yeast

Mouth: Med-heavy carbonation. Tasty.

Overall: Reminds me a of "black IPA", well crafted and easy to like, only thing missing is a good football game. Salud!

I don't normally drink porters, let alone smoked ones. I drink stouts, and usually when I go into a dark beer I usually akin them to stouts by default.

But I don't get much of the coffee/chocolate notes. I do get toasty malt and the smokiness, no doubt. The most surprising part is how mellow it all is; there isn't an overbearing hop characteristic here. Its just a rich warming brew, exceptionally smooth.

I'll need to try this again cold, but warm, it ain't bad at all. Surprising, since I don't normally drink dark beers warm.

Pair this with something equally rich. This would go perfectly with some pulled pork, no doubt. Something spicy-sweet would really work with the smoked flavor I get here.

All in all, a perfect BBQ Beer to those with good taste, and the best porter I've had so far.
