look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5

Appearance: This beer when poured into a pint glass has a deep mahogany-ruby colored body. Quite light for a porter. An inch of tan head billows and slowly subsides to a tight 1/4" of foam. Great retention. Quite appealing.

Smell: There is a nice sweet malt smell to this, some nice chocolate notes and a dull smokehouse scent. Again, nice.

Taste: The primary flavors in this smoked porter are not all that different from a standard porter. Definitely chocolate, some cherry, strong espresso towards the end. Then, in the aftertaste and more in the beer itself as it warms comes the smoked flavor. It's slightly acrid, adds a sharp quality, and really tastes of smoke. Put this with some smoked gouda and you found a match made in heaven.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability: This is very good, it has a nice light body without the flavor being too much. Nice carbonation keeps it smooth, and this is immensely drinkable. The only thing that might start to bother is the smoked taste. One bomber and I was still ready for more, but some may be put off by the smokiness. I think this is excellent. Still waiting to try the Alaskan, however.

22 oz. bottle. Pours black with a big tan head. Has a chocolate malt smell with an essence of smoke. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Taste is of chocolate malts with a very slight smoked quality. Finishes super smooth.
Not much smoked flavor here, I was expecting more than was found. Still a pretty decent porter.

A: Pours a beautiful garnet with two fingers incredibly dense, fluffy mocha head. Head retention is stellar. Lacing is also stellar. Beautiful looking pint.

S: Immediately the smoke presence is known. Charred oak, chicory, coffee, and cacao are all present in the nose. Also present is a bit of citric hops.

T: Again, the smoke is a powerful component in the process. Layers of it permeate throughout the tasting. Sweet chocolate malts are met immediately with an oily smokiness which is quickly overtaken by a flash of citric hoppiness. Finishes dry with an awesome roasted aftertaste of americano, chicory and cocoa powder.

M: Carbonation is subdued, which is great for the style. However, the body is just a touch on the thin side for expressing such dark and aggressive flavors.

O: Goddamn amazing. This is a beer that I've been eyeing for a few weeks. Glad to have finally tried it.

A - Pours solid brown with a thick foamy head that stays throughout the glass.

S - sweet and smokey - thats it

T - holy liquid smoke! Strong smoke, roasted malts and a spicy finish

M - Highly carbonated and thin bodied

D - With such a strong smoke taste one is enough.

Glassware - 10oz Nonic

Appearance - Ridiculously dark red in color with a tan cap for a head. My wife was drinking an Aprihop which has a nice red tinge and it didn't even compare to the depth of color in this one. The best way to describe it is blood red. The lacing on the glass is pretty much a solid wall.

Nose - Smells of barbecue smoke, chocolate and roasted malts. The smoke adds a really interesting meaty, pork-like note.

Taste - Where the smoke is somewhat strong in the nose, it is subtle in the taste, adding a nice accent to the dark kilned malts, similar to a nice smokey coffee.

Mouthfeel - Body is good but it is slightly over carbonated in my opinion, kind of takes away from the smoothness of the flavor profile.

Overall - Even with the higher than anticipated carbonation this is a hugely drinkable beer. Very nice clean and balanced flavor.

STONE Brewery did a super job with this one. It pours nice and dark with a semi-dark creamy head.
The aroma was very pleasant. But what set this one apart from many other Porters/Stouts, is the slight overtone of chocolate, a bit of coffee and a subtle but enjoyable smoking taste.

Very drinkable. A pleasure to drink

I bought this as a single at Union Jack's on the Manatawny. I drank it in a goblet. 22 oz. bomber.

Pours an almost opaque black with just a hint of mahagony around the edges. A beautiful head of beige colored foam forms on top, with great lacing.

Aroma is chocolate and caramel candy, with a detectable level of smokiness. The smoke adds a nice touch. Fruity, with notes of dark cherries, dark raisins, and prunes. Smokiness increases as it warms.

Flavor is chocolate, dark molasses, and light smoke. The smoke character is a very nice touch to this beer. It's fairly sweet, with notes of cherries, raisins and plums. Aftertaste is long, sweet, and delicious.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, with low to medium carbonation. There is a certain level of oiliness on the tongue. Finish is sweet and luscious.

This is a really delicious beer. The smoke is just enough to be noticed, and everything else is great. It's also a pretty beer.

A: Black with a white fluffy head.
S: Smells like a porter (so it has the slight chocolate and a black malt character) with a slight bit of smokiness.
T: Smokey with a good burnt black malt flavour. Full flavoured but only a slight smokey flavour. I'd like the smoked flavour to be more pronounced, after the first few drinks I could barely taste it.
M: A bit thin for a porter, but it has the traditional medium creaminess.
D: Quite!

Looks like a porter should with a thick tan head receding to lace down the sides of the glass, a little quickly, but who hasn't been there? The color is a nice dark brown with red highlights. The aroma is a little light for perfection, but still the smoke and the malts come through nicely. The taste is wonderfully has wonderful undertones of chocolate and sweet malts. The mouthfeel is definitely full and rich, with a nice amount of carbonation.

Stone Smoked Porter 5.9% alcohol. Poured from a 22oz bomber into a German Becker.

A- Pours a opaque fluid that barely shows light on the edges. Heavy two inch head lingers with sticky lacing clinging.

S- Roasted malts and coffee grinds upfront with light vanilla cream hints.

T-M- Sweet creamy coffee with massive malt charactor. Carmel malts are appearent with a light hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy excellence. Smooth carbonation and milky feel make for a great drink.

D- Will drink again but not sure when... if givin i'll put it down. Cheers!

C: mohogany in color, nearly completely opaque, nice tan head covers the surface and leaves patchy lace.
S: Smoky wood scent smells a bit like sorghum
T: taste of heavy malt and chocolate undertones also feels like an espresso aftertaste.
Light carbonation very smooth and surprisingly clean tasting.
Now inside my top five porters

Pitch dark beer, with a shy laced head.
Amberish colours with a low carbonation

Smell is of deep caramel flavors, with some malty ones added with shy hoppy hints. Some chocolate hints play in, and a shy smell of chocolate milk come in.

Taste is hops hit you first followed with a shy caramel presence, everything is smooth and there some carbonated feel in mouth.
No aftertaste, pretty sharp, the smoked flavours were very shy!

It poured into the glass the color of of coffee with a thick light tan head. I was expecting a bit more of a smell. I guess seeing that it's a smoked porter I was expecting a campfire or jerky aroma. I didn't really pick up any of that at all. The taste didn't hit me as smokey either. Just kind of an average to decent porter. I couldn't really detect chocolate, licorice, coffee, smoke, or any of that other crap the bottle had promised. Just a decent dark beer with a minute bitter aftertaste and low carbonation. Maybe it was sitting on the store shelf for a while or something. I've had a smoked bock before that reeked of smoke flavor in the past. I figured this beer would be similar. It wasn't even close.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a pint glass. Courtesy of fellow BA infi.

Pours a dark caramel color that lets light filter through easily. A vigorous pour produces a decent sized head that recedes rather quickly and doesn't leave too much lacing. Swirling it around, the liquid lapped at the sides of the glass a little too eagerly, giving the impression of a lighter, thinner brew. Smell has a lot going for it, with some chocolate undertones as well as some malty character that has an odd tinge to it.

Blast of initial hoppy bitterness that gives way to a roasted malty backbone that coats the tongue. There's another taste in the middle that I haven't experienced before, I'm guessing that's the smoky quality of the porter. Backend has some chocolate nuances along with a return of the bitterness. Interesting, to say the least. Mouthfeel is pretty light, not lager quality, but definitely not as weighty as some of the hefeweizens I've sampled. Carbonation wasn't really present at all. Backs up my initial suspicions of thinness from the look.

This brew didn't do anything to overwhelm me and make me want to revisit it. Light feel and odd flavor hinders the drinkability somewhat. I mean, won't turn down another free go at it, but I can definitely find better beers to imbibe before I try this one again.
