Poured from a bomber into a tulip pint glass.

A - Poured black with ruby hues when held up to the light. Good tan head with minimal lacing throughout.

S - Very medicinal smell. Hints of smoke and coffee.

T - Malty and smoky up front followed by an espresso bitterness.

MF&D - Medium bodied porter. Clung to my mouth well and left a pleasant aftertaste. IMO not quite as good as I had hoped.

Almost completely opaque. Light brown head composed of tiny bubbles that stays pretty well. Quite a bit in the nose, lots of smoked peaty malt, chocolate, and caramel backed by leafy hops. As for the taste, the expected smoked grain. This is most apparent with retro-olfaction, but is definitely a big presence throughout. Lots of roasted grain and dark chocolate, very bittersweet up front. Leafy and slightly rind-like hops come out more in the back, but are subtle and balance perfectly with the malt. Very slight fruitiness, plum-like. Perfectly smooth and creamy mouthfeel. I'm a big fan of smoked beers, and this one is amazing. I am very impressed, I love this beer. I bow to the great gargoyle.

Pours from the bottle with a deep, nearly opaque black/brown color and generates a foamy sand-colored head. The aroma is disappointingly subtle, with only a bit of milk chocolate and weak coffee being discerned. The flavor is more what I had hoped for, with some soft, woody smoke, chocolate, and a bit of spicy, herbal hops for balance. The mouthfeel detracts from the varied flavor profile, with a fine, fizzy carbonation that borders on unpleasant. Overall, this is a fine porter with a bit of extra character, but it is is sadly subtle.

Always enjoyed this beer figured it was time to rate it.

A- Dark as night, has a nice chocolate brown foam which has a nice lace that slowly fades. Little to no carbonation.

S- Has a nice sweet malt smell. Mild chocolate malt as well with a smooth milk like smell.

T- It has a great smokey sweet malt taste to it. Mellow milk and chocolate flow as well. Nice creamy mid palette.

M- Great drinkability, Nice full body flavor very bold in taste. Leaves your mouth with a nice sweet finish.

Overall- Great beer hands down, will support this beer to the very end. Well done Stone! Cheers

OK.... I am probably prejudiced.... because I've LOVED every Stone Brew I've tried.... but here goes:

I poured the 22 oz Bomber into a pint glass. It was a bit of a 'hard" pour that resulted in a 2-1/2" head of tan goodness. The beer is ebony in color.... no light shone through when held to the light.

The head diminished slowly and left behind lot's of clumpy lacing on the glass.

The smell was full of sweet caramel and dark chocolate.

The taste: mmmm.... goodness in a bottle... the first thing that hits me is the smokey taste... I can see why this is a SMOKED PORTER.... it tastes like a campfire thats been smoldering for a week! The dark chocolate pokes through as well as the expresso coffee. The finish is a bit fruity.... wow.... very complex!

Mouthfeel: nicely carbonated.... great mouth coating and aftertaste.

Drinkability: If I had more, I would drink more... but, alas.... the Bomber is gone.... Oh to live in San Diego.... I would have this alot! Highly recommended.

Pours a deep brown with a frothy two-finger light brown head. Awesome lacing and head retention. Not much in the aroma department. Smells of faint smoke in the distance. Flavor beings with dark chocolate and roasted coffee notes. Subtle malt sweetness. A bit of crisp hop flavor kicks in for a short stay until an underlying smokiness finishes off the beer and lingers into the aftertaste. The smoke is all well incorporated in this beer as any I have tried.

Recently had some from a pitcher order my friend placed at the Sunset Grill and Tap in Allston, Mass. Poured from the pitcher into an American pint glass. A deep dark black with a thick two-finger tan and beige head that lasted atop the sample for its duration and left ample lacing as well.

A very nice smell. Similiar to BBC coffee house porter. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, mocha, carmel, and coffee.

Each frangrance of the smell backed up by a facet of the taste and well balanced to boot. Strong black coffee up front and softer delicate chocolate, caramel, and toffee in the background but enough to make themselves known.

Heavy on the palate with almost no carbonation to speak of.

Very easy to drink but very filling. Had another sample from the pitcher and that was the perfect amount for me in one sitting. Certainly a good beer, but one to be enjoyed a little at a time.

Purchased at Capital City Package in Atlanta.
22oz bottle.

A- Pours a medium black with amber highlights when held up the light. Small tan head to start but it quickly fades away to nothing. It might be my glass but there's little to no head regention.
S- I get some black licorice and a bit of smoke. I was expecting a little bit more in the terms of aroma. I do get some alcohol as it warms, which I found surprising.
T- Man is this beer delicious. Smoke, lots of smoke. Licorice and a bit of roasted malt. Did I mention the smoke?
M- Mouthfeel is on par for a porter. Medium body and exceptionally smooth.
D- Drinks well for a smoked beer. Goes down easily. I could try to put away a couple of these but I think the smoke would get in the way.

Overall, a damn fine porter and a damn fine smoked beer. Even my dad thought it was good, and he's a Schaefer kind of beer guy. Stone again does not disappoint.

Updated 2/10/12: been almost a year and a half since I had this last. Definitely note more smoke in the aroma and taste. Coffee also in the taste. I like this more now.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a clear pint glass. Enjoy by 11-10-10. Paid $4.49 at John's Market.

A-Pours a very dark brown hue with a two finger, thick, creamy tan head with great retention and ample lacing.

S-Chocolate and toasted malts with a pungent hop presence. Surprisingly, the smoky character of this beer is not evident in the aroma.

T-Rich malt and creamy dark chocolate. Sweet and hoppy with a pleasant smoky essence that I would like to be more prominent.

M-Very smooth and nicely carbonated.

D-This is a very solid contribution from Stone, but not a favorite among their fine year round and seasonal line up.

Poured a drank dark brown without light showing through any part of the glass. There was a delectable cafe au lait head that receded into a slick across the top of the beer with some large bubbles sticking to the side of the glass. The smell held very little smoke in it. It was much more full of robust chocolate notes with a hint of alcohol tickling the back of the nose. Just a tad sweet smokiness as I breathed deeply. The taste was the same with much more bitter chocolate notes without much smoke to push through. It was very full bodied and a wonderful porter, but not smokey enough for the style. Enjoy!
