Wow this was terrible. Looked ok, not much aroma, mild roast little hint of smoke. Taste like a 6% black ipa, piney grapefruit. The bottle listed several flavors that were not present. Mouthfeel was thin and watery, not pleasant.

Rating this to the black IPA style it would be average. I don't know how this is called a porter, no roast, no chocolate, no coffee, no caramel, no porter characteristics at all. This is my second bad purchase from Wegemans Malvern in the last 2 weeks, have to stop going there.

What a disappointment, my first from Stone. Lousy beer. Don't know wtf happened here. Waste of money.

A: Pours a beautiful garnet with two fingers incredibly dense, fluffy mocha head. Head retention is stellar. Lacing is also stellar. Beautiful looking pint.

S: Immediately the smoke presence is known. Charred oak, chicory, coffee, and cacao are all present in the nose. Also present is a bit of citric hops.

T: Again, the smoke is a powerful component in the process. Layers of it permeate throughout the tasting. Sweet chocolate malts are met immediately with an oily smokiness which is quickly overtaken by a flash of citric hoppiness. Finishes dry with an awesome roasted aftertaste of americano, chicory and cocoa powder.

M: Carbonation is subdued, which is great for the style. However, the body is just a touch on the thin side for expressing such dark and aggressive flavors.

O: Goddamn amazing. This is a beer that I've been eyeing for a few weeks. Glad to have finally tried it.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into pint glass

Appearance – Pours a deep brown nearly black color with a thick one finger tan head. The head had very nice retention leaving a medium amount of lacing.

Smell – Roasted malt is heaviest in the nose. These are cocoa and dark bread in nature with lighter hints of some smokiness, pine and a nice caramel/brown sugar sweetness.

Taste – A smooth roasted malt and cocoa flavor mixed with a light sweet caramel start the taste out. The caramel fades as some hoppy flavors come to the tongue. These are largely earthy in nature with lighter flavors of pine. At the end, the smoke that is suggested in the name, comes to fruition along with a resurgence (light resurgence) of some sweeter flavors.
Overall a very nice taste is left on the tongue in the end.

Mouthfeel – Creamier then the average brew with a slightly lighter level of carbonation. Very nice for the roasty-smoky flavors of the brew.

Overall – It’s a rather easy to drink, roasty and a good go to for a slightly dryer porter. Not too shabby.

I reviewed Smoked Porter in a glass mug.

Appearance- This beer has a very nice muddy-brown cap with tiny bubbles in the smooth surface. There is about a finger's-width of foam sitting atop the dark brown and opaque body. There is almost a solid wall of lace as the drink diminishes in the glass.

Smell- This one is full of rich cocoa nibs and a tangy yeast. It almost smells like sourdough bread. Not much smoke to speak of, but incredibly rich and malty.

Taste- The palate is not quite as rich, but the smokiness is more forward and really clings for a long finish. The sourdough bread malt hits the palate more in the middle of the drink. Cocoa is not nearly as strong here, which is a little disappointing.

Mouth feel- A nice mouth feel is found in Smoked Porter: a bigger medium body that slides easily over the tongue. It is not very dry, but the beer really sticks to the cheeks, making for a very long drink.

Overall- I really enjoyed this porter. If only the malty, cocoa bomb promised by the nose could transfer to the palate without getting muted by the smoke. Otherwise there is not much to complain about here. Enjoy this one!
