22 oz brown bomber. Awesome screen printed Stone label as always with this brewery. Poured into a nonic pint glass.
A - darkest of brown splashed with touches of deep ruby. Tan to beige head that pours thick and fluffy leaving behind a fine display of lace. Good stick.
S - sweet dark malts with a slight smokiness to it. Hints of coffee along with a whiff of chocolate and a light touch of vanilla. More whiffs of smoked grain deep within.
T - rich chocolate with roasted coffee notes. A small taste of dark fruit creeps up through a steady flor of mild sweetness. A good dose of smoked malts on top of everything. Burnt like malt and some hops create a nice semi bitterness in the finish.
M - medium bodied and delicious. This is on the thick side and very drinkable.
O - awesome porter from stone. Has the porter 'it' factor with a stone style. I don't think they make an average beer. I could drink this any time. Definitely in my list of top 3 American porters. It's that good.

Never had a smoked beer before. This one was a reasonable price, so here we are. Pours motor oil deep-brown-to-black, though with decent amount of fizz on the sides, head like root beer.
Smells like dark chocolate & raisin, maybe some licorice. Not sure what wood they smoked the grains with, and it's subtle, but it reminds me of a cross between oak and cherry. Enough sniffin'...
The dark fruit comes up much more on the swig than the nose, while chocolate still present though playing a surprising amount of background. Sweeter than I expected also. Doesn't go down as thick as I expected, surprisingly refreshing and mellow overall.
For something grabbed on a whim, the verdict is: freakishly delicious. I would buy a 40 of this if I could. Seriously.

22 oz bomber pours a dark cola with good head and lacing. Aroma has a nice smokey nose with roasted coffee, vanilla, and light bacon. The taste really separates this one from other smoked porters - it has a wonderful smokey taste without being raspy. Slight hoppy bitterness balances things out without being overwhelming. Great easy-going mouthfeel reinforces the lack of smokey raspiness, with dry finish. I've had smoked porters that left me feeling like I'd been breathing in campfire smoke for hours on end but not this one! A very nice smoked porter.
