22. oz bottle, "enjoy by" date of Feb. 22 2011, so I'm cutting it close on this one. Poured into a snifter and shared with a friend. Pretty pumped about this beer.
Appearance: Pours a rich, dark mahogany/burnt amber with a thick, rocky tan head of a finger or two, slowly dissipating to a film on top and never really fades away but leaves a collar of bubbles. Lets you know what it's about right off the bat. Sheets of lacing drag the glass during consumption. Almost barleywine-like in its appearance.
Smell: Huge, but balanced. Simultaneously occurring notes of pine, floral hops, caramel, and roasted malts bombard the nose all at once, but it's not confusing or overbearing. Slight hint of alcohol. A kick in the nose, gives me things to anticipate.
Taste: Where has this been all my life?! Unforgiving notes of pine and pungent floral hops start out, followed by a rich, sugary sweetness and caramel/roasted malts. More bitterness and slightly herbal, woody, and citric tastes from the hops in the finish, but balanced by a robust sweetness. Hints of alcohol prickle the tongue throughout the drinking session. This is not for the faint of heart, not at all. Big flavor, and it is bold on all fronts.
Mouthfeel: Slight warming alcohol, but the overall mouthfeel is remarkably rich, thick, and creamy. Hop notes and caramel flavors linger on the finish. Well-placed carbonation which helps to enhance all the flavors involved in the beer. Fairly dry in the finish, but enhanced flavors as the beer warms makes me want another sip.
Drinkability: Take it slow with this one. Not because of the alcohol content, but because the flavors will grow more as the beer warms, and you'll grow to appreciate the flavors more. Nice for sitting back and sipping.
Hands down one of the best beers I've had. I almost was not worthy of its arrogance, but I loved it too much to not finish it. This is a beast of a beer. Approach with caution, and you will be rewarded.

Served from the bottle, bastard pours well with a generous oak, white head fluffy yet full. The bastard is dark, a rich copper appearance is top notch. Not the strongest smell but Im getting a faint yet sweet amber ale scent reminds me of some nuts. Toasty nuts.
Taste: The head itself is remarkable. I loved that delicious fluff. Anyhow the flavor is bold as hell, strong hoppy taste makes me want more. Thats what I look for in a beer. Flavor sticks with you. A bit bitter in the end however thats what I expected. It all works together in this ale's showcase.
Feel is spectacular, polar opposite of those watered down domestic brews which the back of the bottle rags on.
Overall I give the ale a 4.75
Would recommend to any folk who can handle stuff like this ;)
