Appearance: A deep darkcopper with ruby highlights, the small tan head quickly faded to lace.
Smell: a lively west coast hop aroma backed with some sweet malt.
Taste: A caramelized malt flavor is primary here, with a big hoppy bitterness on the finish. I would gues this has over 50 IBUs. I think this could be characterized as a double IPA without too many complaints.
Mouthfeel: Kind of juicy and cloying, but the carbonation does a good job of wiping that out.
Drinkability: At 7.2 % it can be challenging to drain a 22. But it is very enjoyable beer to drink all the way to the bottom of the bomber.
Overall: Like an American equivalent to the Belgian Dubbel with high alpha acid hops.
