Appearance - Pours a beautiful dark ruby amber with a frothy, off-white 3-finger head. The head sits for a good few minutes before giving way to a nice, remarkable sticky lacing.
Smell - Primarily a light, sweet ruby red grapefruit aroma, and not much else on the nose.
Taste - There's a bit of chocolate, caramel and coffee to start, then quickly gives way to an aggressive, bitter citrus grapefruit hop that rides through into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Full bodied, complimented by creamy carbonation... but the sheer aggressive bitterness makes this one a sipper, not a chugger.
Overall - While technically classified as a Strong Ale, Arrogant Bastard has the hop bitterness to rival that of the strongest 2IPA's, maybe more. It's a beer that can be, at times, tough to get through, but when one takes it's time, the beauty in this beer shines as bright as the best ales made.
