Pours dark black with a one finger mocha head, has pretty good retention and leaves spotty lacing. The aroma has coffee, dark roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla. The coffee and dark roasted malt aromas are strong enough to almost completely obscure the chocolate and vanilla.

The taste has a nice combination of bitterness from the coffee and roasted malt, along with some sweetness from the chocolate and vanilla. The coffee is by far the most dominant flavor in this beer. The chocolate, vanilla, and to an extent the dark roasted malt, are mostly playing supporting roles. The taste of alcohol is also noticeable, but not intrusive.

Medium to full bodied with modest carbonation. There is a coffee and dark roasted malt aftertaste. Overall a good beer, but I prefer the regular Imperial Russian Stout over this version.

look: 3 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

Pours mahogany with 2 fingers of caramel. Viscious, some lacing & head retention

S: Coffee, some chocolate, a little vanilla & boozeyness

T: Chocolate, mocha, dryness & coffee, some peppery spicyness up front. A touch of anise & boozeyness as this warms, then some more chocolate, some minty hops, some charcoal & oakyness, plus a whisper of caramel. Finishes oaky, slightly boozey, with caramel & coffee, plus mocha

MF: Chewy, subtle carbonation, some slickness, very warming

I like this more than the standard version, the complexity works for me. Another great offering from Stone!
