Poured from the artisan 1 pt, 6 fl. oz. bottle.

First off - excited just to have the 2013 collabo-brew. Suggested cellar temp for aging on the bottle. Tempting, but I wanted to try right away. I believe aging this stout would make this brew better than it already is.

Appearance: Oil. Pours on the thick side, almost pure black with a bit of brown mixed in (similar to the color of oil coming out of your oil pan.

Aroma: Nutty for sure. Dare I say you can actually smell the pecans. Followed by a bit of chocolate/mocha-coffee scent.

Taste: Right away, briefly taste the wheat malts (very sweet) and then the pecans, which are carried throughout the taste. Next, the Rye comes through and overtakes the wheat, giving a smoked, oaky flavor along with the mocha-coffee taste and the pecans. Boozey flavor underlying all of it, which can distract. However, at 13% and having a quarter of it aged in oak barrel stouts, the flavor is appreciated.

Mouthfeel: When I have a stout, I'm expecting a thick, almost creamy, mouthfeel. Surprisingly, the mouthfeel is not as thick as expected and is a bit dry. I THINK I like it?

Overall: Get this beer. In fact, get two of them - try one now, and try the other in at least a year. WIth some aging and letting those malts settle in, I think the beer would become smoother and even more delicious. Taste was very good and pecans added a new "nuttiness" that is a bit sweeter than usual. Coffee and mocha flavor come through well and the more I think about it, the more I appreciate the dry finish.

Bottoms up.
