22oz bottle into a snifter
A: Pours pitch black with two fingers of dense tan foam. Great retention and lacing.
S: Milk chocolate, roast, nuts, and malted milk balls. Smells a bit boozy, but not over the top. Maybe a hint of bourbon, but it's probably confirmation bias.
T: Dry bourbon and spicy oak are quite strong, particularly the tannic, spicy oak. A bit overwhelming. Dark chocolate and nuts come out after that, but not enough to balance. The beer is really overwhelmed by a bitter, tannic element. It's really hard to find anything else.
M: Medium to thick mouthfeel with low, creamy carbonation.
O: The tannic, bitter, spicy oak flavor is overwhelming. Somehow this beer remains very drinkable despite being very palate-fatiguing. I finished the 22oz bottle in probably 15 minutes. Certainly tongue-bruising, but it at least has a nutty, chocolatey backbone to help balance a bit. I'm conflicted in my review and thoughts on the beer.
