A: A light copper colored beer with an orange hue and very good clarity. Produces a good head stand of compact off-white bubbles that leave fine ropes of lacing with excellent head retention.

S: Tropical fruit and citrus hops dominate at a medium-strong level bring aromas of sweet orange, melon and peach, under that there is some moderate coconut mixing in with the moderate caramel malt sweetness. The coconut aroma increases as the beer warms becoming dominate at about my serving temp for ales.

T: A strong hops bitterness and tropical fruit hops flavor dominate closely followed by coconut. There is a a light colored fruit flavor from the hops that brings flavors of melon, peach and nectarine. The malt brings a moderate malt sweetness but the balance is fairly strongly towards the bitter.

M: A creamy, medium bodied beer with a medium-strong level of carbonation.

O: The coconut compliments the tropical fruit hops very well making for an usually but enjoyable beer.

In a pint glass this beer was gold in color with a small white head. There was a little bit of lace.

Aroma of tropical fruit and grassy hops. Could not detect any coconut in the aroma.

A taste of Hawaiian Punch and mango. Some orange. The coconut showed up mid taste. A little bit of late hops.

Sweet, fruity mouthfeel.

Good try, it fell a little short.

22 oz bottle. Pours clear golden orange with a medium bubbly white head that quickly goes to a thin film that laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet bready malts, some ripe tropical fruit (with light coconut) and floral hops with a bit of stink.

The flavor is sweet malts with a kind of chemical coconut flavor and bitter grassy hops that taste a bit charred in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with creamy carbonation.

Overall, an interesting experiment but doesn't work for me. The coconut tastes fake and the doesn't work with the grassy floral hops. I much prefer their coffee IPA.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 22oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label on the bottle listed the abv at 7.7%.

Appearance: The body has a cloudy appearance with a deep golden yellow color and a tight half inch white head on top. The head is slow fading and it makes lots of nice slick lacing on the glass as I drink and swirl the beer.

Smell: Its aroma hit me right from the opening of the bottle. It is full of big sweet juicy hops, which is just what I was expecting from a Stone IPA. I was unable to distinguish any noticeable coconut character from the big tropical fruit like hop notes.

Taste/Palate: Right up front there is a big hit of juicy hop character with notes of citrus and tropical fruit notes over a bed of light creamy malt and some bready yeast as well. The coconut flavor is mostly lost in the big hop notes but it does add to the overall character. This slowly fades into a more pine like hop presence that also brings lingering hop bitterness. The palate feels right on, not too light and not too heavy. Likewise the carbonation adds just enough lift to keep it lively.

Notes: Classic Stone hop forward IPA.

Light yellowy, hazey appearance with a good amount of pure white head. Lacing is spotty. The aroma is the only place I really get a good amount of coconut. Lots of sweetness in the nose. The taste is very much west coast IPA. Little malt sweetness, tons of hop character, and a touch of extra back sweetness from the coconut. Glad I bought this to try, but I wouldn't grab one again.

Bomber cost me $10 at Malt & Mold in NYC, enjoy by 10/10/13.

Pours lightly hazed amber, moderate head and then leaves well established and lasting fine sheeting.

Nose of tropical fruits. Some orange, some mango and some lime noted.

On the tongue I get more tropical fruits, some moderate spice, more lime and mild hot sauce, no coconut and a hoppy biting citric finish.

Delicious. But no coconut for me.

Went well with some aged Cabot clothbound cheddar

The Beers of California

#91

Freshness Date: 10/10/13

A: Golden amber with an ample off white foam with good retention.

S: Equal parts fruit and earth. The fruit is citrus with notes of pineapple. The coconut is subtle and milky.

T: Again the hops come through as citrus and flowers. There is also an earthy bitterness that springs off the bready malt foundation. There is a faint coconut milkiness that attempts to weave together the palate.

M: Classic medium IPA feel with a linger that coats the palate.

O: A creative idea but could actually use more intense coconut flavors and overall the palate is somewhat muddled. Overall uninteresting and an only slightly above average IPA.

Had on tap at Blaze Bar Harbor

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, clear, gold, moderate carbonation

Smell: pine hops and light coconut

Taste: pine hops and light coconut

Mouthfeel: sweet with a bitter back bone and a dry end, medium carbonation, light bodied

Overall: A decent IPA that I wish the coconut was more present in. Every now and then as the beer warmed I would get a good whiff, however it would be tastier if it was more balanced with the pine.
