Notes & Commercial Description:

A sour ale with 2 lbs. of Stone Farms Passion Fruit per Barrel. There is lots of red and rosé wine flavor here, as well as plenty of oak. Some acetic sharpness and lactic acid sourness in the flavor and on the nose. Tropical fruit flavors from the Passion Fruit, and a distinct guava and berry note from the two types of wine barrels make for a distinctive, intensely fruity beer.

This version was aged in red wine barrels and was part of a tap takeover at Tap + Bottle in Tucson, Ariz..

The red wine barrel aging appears to have turned the beer into a sour-like beer. Not overly so, but enough to make it unique.

If it shows up in your area, give it a try. (278 characters)

I am drinking this on tap. Not a big nose but there is some fruit and light tartness.
Pours reddish amber under a 1” off-white foam cap. It is lacy with some legs.
Has a rich tropical fruit palate, some melon finished by an assertive, bitter, citrusy hop finish.
Medium body and medium high carbonation. (307 characters)

Stone Reason Be Damned Aged In Red Wine Barrels on tap at the 2014 Most Arrogant Bar Bash (Barleys in Greenvillle, SC).

Pours a beautiful, clear dark copper with an excellent head and lacing.

Excellent wine barrel effects. Fruity/floral aroma. Great complexity and balance. Both tart and sweet. Dry finish. Tastes better than it smells until the aftertaste when too much wine barrel remains.

O: This sipper is interesting and complex (438 characters)

On tap at Vine and Barley Palm City. Served in a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy deep orange. Medium white head with good retention.

Smell - Very fruity. Lots of oak and red wine. Pale malt.

Taste - Not what I expected at all. Immediately oaky. The base Belgian beer lends some yestiness and spice. Passion fruit kicks in behind it. It gets sour and oaky. Lots of wine in the finishand a little bit of solvent lingers.

Mouthfeel - Medium heavy. All over the place and a little tough to drink.

Overall - Well it's a fascinating combination, but it's also a little off putting. Worth a try. (590 characters)
