Bottled 1/23/14 (about 3 weeks old).

A: Pours a clear gold. Tall, frothy and fizzy white head (maybe off-white). Good head retention but moderate sticky streaks of lacing.

S: Welp, grapefruit. Duh. Lots of of bitter, pungent grapefruit. Some spicy, resinous pine as well backs it up. No sign of malt. Duh.

T: Surprise, surprise, grapefruit. Followed by more grapefruit. Bitter, sharp, pungent grapefruit through and through. Grapefruit bombs everywhere. There is that spicy, resinous, dank pine that backs it up quite well. This spicy resin continues once the grapefruit has faded out, well into the finish and aftertaste. The aftertaste is spicy and bitter at the same time. Lots of super dry and bitter grapefruit peel but the spicy resinous dankness holds its own. No real noticeable malt anywhere but I'm sure it's hiding somewhere to help balance.

M: Medium-heavy, bitter and dry.

O: "Grapefruit slam" indeed. A nice highlight of grapefruit-y hops and actual grapefruit. Big, bold and bitter. Just enough accompanying hops to give it some backup and some complexity. Regardless, this is still a showcase of grapefruit and it executes it well.

22 oz bottle. Pours clear golden orange with a medium creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sugary bready malts and tropical fruit / grapefruit.

The flavor is a little sweet fruity bready malt followed by a pretty big resiny bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with light carbonation.

Overall, a nice IPA, but not as good as I thought it sounded.

Bottle share at Proof done side-by-side with Proof's Guru IPA blended with Apollo aged on grapefruit. Pale straw in color with very little head. Big grapefruit and orange citrus with some tropical fruit in the aroma. Taste is spicy/citrus combo with a fair malt backbone. High carbonation (despite little head) and medium body. I enjoyed the Proof considerably more.

22oz brown bomber with a freshness date.

Stunningly tight and sticky lacing on top of this hazed out pale amber brew. Big bag of smashed grapefruits rush the nostrils, hints of alcohol and hops within. My palate is simply being abused by the onslaught of grapefruit and hops, the alcohol is clean and quite warming. Some light bready tones underneath but the finish is just more lingering grapefruit and hops.

Slam? This is a Smackdown, thanks Stone for this one and keeping things fun.
