Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice. Bottled on 01/29/14.
Appearance: Pours a bright and clear golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid two fingers of white head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of creamy lacing around the glass.
Smell: A ripe, juicy, and very hop forward West Coast IPA aroma with big hints of grapefruit and citrus. Upfront scent of juicy citrus hops with big hints of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, pineapple, lemon, tangerine, and apricot. Dank smell of pine resin and some earthy hints of grass. Backing presence of pale malt with hints of grains, straw, and yeast. A very ripe and nicely bitter hoppy aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a very juicy, ripe, and bitter hop forward taste with big notes of grapefruit and other citrus. Upfront juicy taste of citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, mango, orange peel, lemon, pineapple, tangerine, and apricot. Dank and spicy taste of pine resin and some earthy notes of grassy hops. Pale malt with some notes of grains, straw, cracker, and yeast. Nicely bitter and drying. Very good taste.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very juicy, oily, and drying. Pretty smooth with a well hidden alcohol presence.
Overall: Another good IPA from Stone. The added grapefruit adds a nice kick to an already juicy taste.

22 oz bottle. Pours clear golden orange with a medium creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sugary bready malts and tropical fruit / grapefruit.
The flavor is a little sweet fruity bready malt followed by a pretty big resiny bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with light carbonation.
Overall, a nice IPA, but not as good as I thought it sounded.

Bottle share at Proof done side-by-side with Proof's Guru IPA blended with Apollo aged on grapefruit. Pale straw in color with very little head. Big grapefruit and orange citrus with some tropical fruit in the aroma. Taste is spicy/citrus combo with a fair malt backbone. High carbonation (despite little head) and medium body. I enjoyed the Proof considerably more.

22oz brown bomber with a freshness date.
Stunningly tight and sticky lacing on top of this hazed out pale amber brew. Big bag of smashed grapefruits rush the nostrils, hints of alcohol and hops within. My palate is simply being abused by the onslaught of grapefruit and hops, the alcohol is clean and quite warming. Some light bready tones underneath but the finish is just more lingering grapefruit and hops.
Slam? This is a Smackdown, thanks Stone for this one and keeping things fun.
