22 oz bottle poured into a snifter.
8.2% ABV, Bottled on 01/30/14
A - Clear golden orange, this beer is a cross between the yellow grapefruit skin and it's darker, pink pulp; frothy off-white foam caps the brew and splatters some lace on the snifter for added effect. A sexy looking beer to be sure!
S - With a name like Grapefruit Slam IPA, one might be inclined to expect some grapefruit up front. Stone's Stochastcity Project delivers on that promise with a nose of ripe, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice filled with pulp, as well as chunks of those delicious little sugary grapefruit candies. Sweet malt provides some base for this aromatic hoppy brew, delicately offering warming alcohol on the back end.
T - Traces of caramel creep through the big malty base of Grapefruit Slam IPA inserting sweetness into the mix of bitter grapefruit peel and piny, resiny hops while grapefruit juice leaves bitterness lingering on the tongue.
M - Stronger malt presence provides a rich and smooth base but rises to the surface creating a fuller feeling body and warming alcohol, even for the "lower" 8%. Both of these attributes aren't terrible, they just serve to diminish the delicate grapefruit nature of this IPA; it's bitter finish remains in tact, however.
O - Stone's Stochasticity Project Grapefruit Slam IPA, the first release of this project, is a fantastic beer, but one that seems to step away from what one might expect from Stone, especially in regards to their hoppy beers. Grapefruit Slam IPA doesn't scream double IPA in terms of it's hoppiness and while the aroma seems spot on, it doesn't quite deliver on the name's promise of bold characteristics of the subtropical citrus fruit. Finely brewed, it's certainly hard to put down this damn tasty brew, I just wish my senses were truly slammed with grapefruit.

Bomber > Pint Glass
A - Nice clear vibrant orange gold with one finger of foamy white head, no lacing.
S - Big grapefruit and lemon candy, orange juice, a little papaya and pineapple, very little malt in the aroma.
T - Yeah its definitely a grapefruit overload. Tons of bitter grapefruit peel and juice, a little lemon/lime action going on, light crackery malt.
M - Extremely bitter, outrageous.
O - Does what is supposed to. Loads of grapefruit, and then some. I dont like grapefruit or grapefruit juice on their own, and this doesnt really make it better. Its decent, if that is something you enjoy out of American IPA's you're in luck.

Serving Type- for a bottle poured into a tulip glass
Appearance- Golden orange hue, thick white head with fine neat bubbles, almost an golden orange wheat look but with a classic west coast IPA look mixed in
Smell- Citrus, Grapefruit, citrus peel and rind, classic west coast hop aromas, dank pine notes with a hint of sweetness from the grapefruit
Taste- Citrus, Grapefruit, citrus peel and rind, classic west coast hop dankness, a hint of sweet malts but not much
Mouthfeel- Smooth west coast IPA mouthfeel, a little bit of hop bitterness on the back end but in the front of the tongue very smooth and drinkable a great and different take on a double IPA
Overall- A cool beer by the Stone Brewing Company side project I hope they do different beers like this I liked this one a lot if you have not had it and you can find it you should pick up a few bottles and try it for yourselves....CHEERS
