Notes/Commercial Description:
When Meagan Parisi and Stone brewmaster Mitch Steele decided to collaborate, it was essential that they tap a special individual to complete their triad of fermentation domination, and they found just that in Tonya Cornett, the brewmaster at Bend, Oregon's 10 Barrel Brewing Company. Together, they decided on a sturdy yet velvety base of imperial porter and developed a plan to celebrate the bounty of the environs in which it was produced by harvesting avocado honey, jasmine and calendula flowers (some from our very own Stone Farms) and infusing them into the beer to create something complex and uniquely Southern Californian. Consider it craft cross-pollination at its finest.

Poured from a bottle into a dimpled mug.

A - Pours an opaque dark-brown with a massive four finger khaki colored head with amazing retention. Ringlets of sticky lacing. A looker.

S - Mild aroma of flowers (not hop flower but more like roses or daisies) and some dark roasted grains.

T - Very flowery upfront; and the jasmine is strong to the point of being overwhelming. Honey sweetness in the mid-palate, slightly odd when compared to the usual chocolate/caramel sweetness of other porters. Some roasted bitterness from the base beer in the finish but make no mistake, the flavorings are center stage here (for better or for worse) ABV nicely hidden.

M - This beer excels here, as the feel is somewhat light like a porter should be, but also very velvety and smooth. Low carbonation. Wet finish. Overall the feel is great.

O - Hmm...flowers and porter? Ok, props for trying to make this work, and it could have been an unmitigated disaster drain pour of a beer, which it certainly is NOT. That said, a little too much jasmine/petal flavor and the honey didn't really compliment the beer in my opinion. Not a rebuy.

A 22 oz bottle picked up at Greens on Buford Hwy

A - Pitch black with a finger of head and some carbonation left on the glass

S - coffee, jasmine and honey, and floral hops

T - Sweet, chocolate, with a HUGE honey aftertaste!!! Tasty!!

M - Thin and not much carbonation is the downfall of the mouth

O - Definitely a tasty imperial porter. Jasmine and honey are what makes it unique.

22oz bottle poured into tulip glass. Pours a black color with a tall beige head that slowly dissipates while leaving a decent amount of lacing.

Smell is of dark roasted malt, dark cocoa, with the jasmine and honey coming through as well.

Mouthfeel is silky smooth with a decently heavy body, very nice. Taste is chocolate truffles and honey up front, bringing sweetness and dark chocolate bitterness at the same time. The jasmine and calendula can be tasted in the finish, nice and subtle. Alcohol is at 9.6%, but with everything going on here, it is well hidden.

Overall, a really good imperial porter, smooth and very easy to drink.

Bottle

A- Pours a nice inky black, with noticeable bubbles up the sides. Decent head, light lacing on the sides and a light coating over the top 10m later.

S- Very soft at this point, roasted malts, dark chocolates, I cant smell much flowers/jasmine/honey in the glass, but Im defiantly picking it up from the bottle, everything smells pretty good.

T- The roasted malts and chocolates up front as a porter should be, next you get the sweeter side probably the honey and finishes with a slightly bitter dry feeling. Again pretty good.

M- medium to full body, has a decent thick, chewy feeling while still retaining a slippery smoothness over the tongue.

O- When I first opend it I had a hard time picking up the smell, maybe cause its been cellaring since I got it last year. After it aired out some, everything came togather nicely. The carbonation wasn't noticeable while drinking. They did a really good job with this, glad i have 3 more downstairs.
