Simply put, Stone World Bistro & Gardens is truly an amazing sight to behold. I am not exaggerating when I say that it is easily the most visibly appealing and aesthetically pleasing brewpub I've ever visited in the country. You simply cannot beat the atmosphere, either for dinner in the evening hours, or a few hours in the gardens drinking with friends in the afternoon. We did BOTH on a recent visit back in July 2009.

Their vast selection of brews included flagship, seasonals and rarities from Stone's portfolio, as well as numerous guest taps, with an emphasis on regionally brewed beers from CA. I was even surprised to see a hometown favorite, Victory Hopdevil, on tap during our visit! I got to enjoy a cask version of 07.07.07, which was quite enjoyable. In the garden, I kicked back with a classic... Stone IPA.

The gardens are truly a thing of beauty, with ample outside seating and a walkway that extends all the way around the perimeter of the outside area, with additional seating along the way. Complete with waterfalls, lush foliage and colorful flowers, it's definitely easy to lose track of time here.

The merchandise shop is very well-stocked with various goods featuring gargolyes emblazoned on just about everything that comes to mind. I picked up a hella cool Ruination shirt, which I wear often.

The food was as delicious as the beer. Everyone raved about their selections. I had a shrimp and mango salad, if memory serves me correctly, and it was pretty damn amazing. Service was prompt and friendly, and the place is immaculate overall. Even the restrooms are a few notches above your typical brewpub restroom.

All in all, you really can't get much better than this place... unless someone decide to open a brewpub at Warwick Castle in England. The only place that competes with Stone (at least for the ambiance) is perhaps Church Brew Works, if not only for its originality and clever use of an altar. Needless to say, Stone will undoubtedly become a staple during my annual visit to San Diego.
