12oz bottle of the Brass Mug edition of Bourbon Barrel Plead the 5th. Thanks David. Poured into a Hunahpu's taster 4/25/2014.

A- Pitch black body, fairly thick and oily. Has legs. One finger dark mocha head, fair retention, no lacing. Looks just like BBPt5.

S- Quite a bit boring. Roast malt, chocolate, bitter espresso. A little bit of whiskey, but not very much compared to BBPt5, and even compared to regular Pt5.

F- Disappointing, really. Roast, espresso and milk chocolate dominate the palate, very little whiskey barrel character shows up here.

M- This does have the BBPt5 mouthfeel- medium bodied but on the thicker side, viscous, and low carbonation.

O- Disappointing compared to the 2 bottles of Opperman's BBPt5 and half a case of Dark Horse BBPt5 that I have had the chance to drink already. Still a decent beer but I would not recommend bothering with this unless you are a completionist.

Bottle received as an extra.

Pours a very dark black, with very small, about 1/4 inch head, and no lacing.

Smells a bit boozier than regular BBAPt5, and slightly metallic. However, beyond that, all sorts of chocolatey and bourbony goodness awaits.

This tastes a lot like the regular barrel-aged version of this, except it is much boozier. There's some astringent bitterness, but once you get past that, there's chocolate, vanilla, oak, and sweet tasty bourbon.

This one is medium bodied, a little thinner than I'd want, with a low amount of carbonation. Despite the alcohol, still very drinkable.

It doesn't dethrone the regular version, but's it's still nice to try a new version.

Much thinner and sweeter than regular BA Plead with heavy dark fruits and a rum like sting and a touch of plastic.

Brewer confirmed that each of the variants is from the same blend and thus the same beer. Compared them next to a regular BBPt5. Pours are the same, black with a little bit of light brown tight head. Nose is a bit stronger wood up front, malts are dry chocolate and light notes of olive. Bourbon is subtle. Taste follows suit, less rich malt and bourbon than the original, olive and cocoa nib maltiness. Its extremely well integrated, more so than the fresh BBPt5. It isn't quite as rich as the original. It actually seems to have a bit more carb and is a bit thinner. I prefer the original but this is actually a very nice beer, I'd bet very similar to an original with a year or two on it.

355ml bottle poured into tulip 22/10/14, big thanks to alfie for a pair of these

A black right out of the bottle, dark liquid no doubt there, a short lived finger of mocha foam leaves a couple random patches and some color left on the glass after a swirl

S marshmallow, vanilla, not the same levels of bourbon the regular BBPT5 but that still leaves plenty, lots of fudge, a little charred wood, not all that far off the regular version

T lots of char and bourbon, a hint of dried dark fruit, not getting the nutmeg and coconut I picked up on the regular BB version but then again I didn't drink them side by side, not quite the intensity the namesake but still great tasting stuff

M thick no doubt, heavy tannins I don't remember this much grit from the BBPT5 but I don't mind, a little heat, not as sticky, bubbles still cream it up nicely, no real complaints here

O great brew but I think I preferred the original even though I'm not really clear on the difference, maybe I was in a better mood yesterday and scored this lower, who knows?

I really don't know why I didn't drink this side by side with the PT5 and BBPT5, as luck would have it alfie was nice enough to give me some multiples so I'll be cracking all 3 at the same time somewhere down the line.
