Pours a black color with a tan head. Smell of wood, cocoa, and vanilla. Mouth feel had cocoa, and vanilla with slight bourbon finish A nicely roasted milk stout that balances bourbon cocoa, and vanilla nicely.

Dark Horse Cocoa Bourbon Nibbler Cream Stout, 8.5% ABV, 29 IBU. Pours black with no head on an aggressive pour. Some bourbon aroma, not much else. Taste is chocolate and bourbon, with slight bitterness, belt leather - not shoe leather, and a bit of bourbon burn on close. Smooth mouthfeel, overall outstanding. I appreciate a relatively low ABV BA stout, as most that I have are 10-15% ABV.

I'm trying this at the brewery. It poured an opaque dark with tan head that isn't leaving any lace. The scent had semi sweet chocolate and waifes of bourbon. The taste had toasted coconut presence with chocolate base and hints of bourbon. The mouthfeel is fuller in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

With the overwhelming success of adding cocoa and bourbon barrels to an imperial cream stout, the Dark Horse brewery isn't going to miss out.

Cocoa Bourbon Nibbler uses all the nibs, showing a roasted black appearance underneath a blanket of mocha whipped foam. Bold aromas of dark chocolate and cream float above a roasty and toasty scent of dark roast coffee, nuttiness and char. Roasty and sweet on the early palate, the flavors of charred grains yield a burnt sorghum, roasted marshmallow, sweetened espresso taste to start.

As the flavors unfold on the middle palate, the robust sweetness slowly relaxes and the taste of char and earth begin to control the tastebuds. Espresso flavors lend a smoky char to the bittersweet chocolate morsel sweetness while the sultry taste of burnt cream brings a savory earthiness. Black walnut flavors take on the hop bitterness while the late palate comes with a soilish, nutty and toasty campfire notion.

Full bodied and creamy, the beer shares the same arid char, smoldering embers and bitter creaminess that many other Dark Horse stouts do. Tempered with the lingering nougat creaminess, vanilla and coconut nuances from the bourbon barrels, the beer lingers with charred oak, caramel and whisky spice long on the after palate.

2018 batch (growler)

L - Motor oil

S - Cocoa

T - Growler out of the fridge, so this started at 40F. Bitterness from the cocoa dominated at this temp, but not in a bad way. Bourbon started coming through as this warmed. I get a bit of black licorice and leathery undertones.

F - Great mouthfeel, especially at the ABV, ~8%

O - Would drink again
