This pours a medium amber color with a foamy, beige head. There is a strong presence of hops in the aroma. The taste is strong, bitter, and full of flavor. This is everything you would expect from IIPA. Well made, delicious and something that doesn’t ruin your taste buds after one.

Sampled from a 12oz bottle at 50 degrees. There appears to be part of a date on the bottle neck but it's unreadable.

A - Dark golden to amber with a cloudy finish and a minimal white head. Pretty lifeless.

S - Very piney and somewhat boozy with a hint of citrus.

T - Very piney and earthy hops with a moderate bitterness and a firm kick of alcohol. At 12%, how could there not be.

M - Silky smooth with a low carbonation.

O - A big, bold beer (maybe too big and too bold). I guess it's just not my thing but it seems to focus on ABV over flavor.

Long time want, for one reason or another. Got this one at De Bierkoning in A'dam.

From a bottle into a snifter
Drank this one right after the regular one

APPEARANCE: A touch darker than the regular one. Pours a one finger, medium looking, off-white head with good retention. Burnt orange in color, hazy, with medium levels of carbonation evident. Head fades to a full wisp and sticks to the sides of the glass. A ring remains until the end and leaves some dots of lacing down the glass. Better looking than its little brother.

SMELL: Bold for sure. Similar as well. Melon, honeydew melon, citrus lemon notes and some floral hop qualities. Pretty good reallt. Best part of the beer.

TASTE: Caramel and toffee sweetness up front with some alcohol at the swallow. More sweet caramel and butterscotch all the way through, with grainy sweet malts and alcohol lingering on the palate. Some piney hop bitterness, grapefruit notes and grassy flavors after the swallow trying to balance the sweetness. Mostly sweet malts and alcohol, but not particularly hot or boozy. Definitely better than the smaller one.

PALATE: Medium body and medium-high levels of carbonation. Not really creamy enough on the palate, but goes down fine with a touch of heat on the finish and ends slightly dry. Some heat lingers. Much like the regular, but slightly less creamy.

OVERALL: This is better than the smaller version, but still, that's not saying all that much. A sweet and boozy DIPA with some good hop bitterness. Less grainy and more interesting sweet malt flavors on this one, making it more enjoyable to drink. I don't really see this as a steroid version of Crooked Tree, but then again, it's not like they're worlds apart either. Not worth re-visiting. I'll stick to their stout beer.
