Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Deschutes Tulip.

Pours a deep brown that's nice and clear.

Smells pretty faintly of coffee and some caramelly malt sweetness.

Flavor is of old and over-roasted coffee. I'm wondering if I just got a hold of an old bottle but there's no date to be found on the bottle. Slight dark fruit character but also an odd vegetal character ever few sips. Not a fan.

Mouthfeel is pretty light and doesn't linger as long as I'd expect from a doppelbock.

Overall, would like to try at the brewery to see if it's better fresh. I'm hoping this is simply the byproduct of a poorly stored bottle.

Pours a murky, mahogany color in body. Head is an inch and a beige/cream color. Lacing and head retention are wonderful.

Smell is of roasted/burnt dark malts and coffee. Smoky wood or roasted chiles is also oddly detected. Sweet caramel candy/butterscotch balance the bitter coffee. Alcohol is hidden nicely.

Initially tastes more like a standard bock rather than doppelbock. Lighter in sweetness and alcohol strength. Strong, sweet fruit/prune flavors are replaced by lighter malts and a serious bitter coffee kick. Smoky/burnt mesquite wood or fire roasted chiles leave a strange aftertaste. At 7% alcohol, it is incredibly smooth.

Mouthfeel is on the lighter side with lots of carbonation. Head added some texture to the beer.

Overall, I think this was a refreshing take on an old style of beer. Wouldn't say this was the best doppelbock out there but I am slightly biased towards coffee beers. Drinks easily for 7% abv, not available locally but hoping to revisit this one in the future

Bottle purchased at Oliver's in Albany, NY.

Pour a tawny brown, almost clear. Forms a one inch head, not much lacing.

Smells like dark roasted coffee, with some chocolate and dark fruits.

This one tastes interesting. Lots of coffee up front, that gets a little tangy as the beer warms up. The coffee takes away some of the typical dopplebock character from the beer, but the bready malt and dark fruits keep some vestige of the style. The various flavors mix together pretty well.

Medium bodied, slightly thin at times. The carbonation is good, but sometimes a little distracting from the more rich flavors of the beer.

A good, interesting effort- with some clean up- fill out the body and cut down the carbonation, and make the dopplebock aspects stronger, this could be an amazing beer.

Overflowing plume of khaki head pours into the glass, with a murky body of medium brown.

Coffee dominates the aroma. Sweet, nutty malt pales in comparison.

Sweet, nutty malt dominates the flavor, with chocolate adding complexity. There's an underlying roast coffee character that doesn't overwhelm. A metallic note surfaces in the aftertaste.

Body is a touch light, with somewhat light carbonation.

Dopplebock character surfaces far more in flavor than aroma, which pleases me. Took 5 minutes to pour the damn beer, but it was worth it. I'm not a huge coffee fan, but the sweet, nutty malt and chocolate won me over.

Pours a brown body with decent head and some lace. Aroma is coffee dominant with touches of roasted malts, caramel and bread. Beer is dry and fuller bodied, not so chewy, and while alright to drink with touches of sweetness the coffee is too dominant for my liking. This isn't a criticism of the beer as much as my personal preference since I'm not a regular coffee drinker at all. To me, at least, the balance is off as the coffee aspect of this beer overpowers all the other aspects of the beer (which is sort of the point).
