12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass at cellar temperature.

L - Jet black color with a 1-finger creamy brown head that dissipates rather quickly into a thin cap that stays at the surface all the way down the glass. Not much lacing. This thing has the consistency of motor oil - just the way a good RIS should be.

S - Roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits like raisins and plums, and a little bit of coffee. Alcohol aromas appear here as well and pair nicely with the sweeter aromas of vanilla and dark fruit. Smells delicious.

T - Starts sweet with chocolate, vanilla, and plum flavors. Stays sweet throughout most of the experience until a little bit of bitter coffee and roasted malt creeps up at the finish.

F - Full-bodied with more carbonation than I was expecting, a thick and creamy mouthfeel, and a slightly bitter and dry finish. Coffee bitterness lingers for a little bit, but vanilla and dark fruit sweetness lingers longer. A nice throat-warming sensation from the alcohol accompanies the finish.

O - This was a really good RIS. I would’ve liked to see a little bit more of a head and more lacing, but the thick consistency and jet black color were great. It smells and tastes a little bit on the sweeter side of the style, but very tasty. The mouthfeel is terrific. The alcohol is hidden amazingly for a beer with an ABV this high. I’ve been hearing about this one for a long time and I’m glad I finally got to try it.

This beer poured almost black and created a huge dark chocolate foamy head that coated the glass with lace as it slowly subsided. An aroma of malt, coffee, chocolate and anise. The flavor was of malt, anise, chocolate and a hint of coffee. The body is medium light and the finish a bit sweet with the alcohol present in the background. Another nice beer from them and hopefully on tap sometime when I visit again.
