12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass at cellar temperature.

L - Jet black color with a 1-finger creamy brown head that dissipates rather quickly into a thin cap that stays at the surface all the way down the glass. Not much lacing. This thing has the consistency of motor oil - just the way a good RIS should be.

S - Roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits like raisins and plums, and a little bit of coffee. Alcohol aromas appear here as well and pair nicely with the sweeter aromas of vanilla and dark fruit. Smells delicious.

T - Starts sweet with chocolate, vanilla, and plum flavors. Stays sweet throughout most of the experience until a little bit of bitter coffee and roasted malt creeps up at the finish.

F - Full-bodied with more carbonation than I was expecting, a thick and creamy mouthfeel, and a slightly bitter and dry finish. Coffee bitterness lingers for a little bit, but vanilla and dark fruit sweetness lingers longer. A nice throat-warming sensation from the alcohol accompanies the finish.

O - This was a really good RIS. I would’ve liked to see a little bit more of a head and more lacing, but the thick consistency and jet black color were great. It smells and tastes a little bit on the sweeter side of the style, but very tasty. The mouthfeel is terrific. The alcohol is hidden amazingly for a beer with an ABV this high. I’ve been hearing about this one for a long time and I’m glad I finally got to try it.
