Served in a snifter
This beer was purchased in the winter of 2011-12. There is not date that I can find on the bottle.
A - This beer pours like motor oil. It is black as night with absolutely no light getting through. An inch of cocoa head settles on top and surprisingly, is fed by some thin lines of bubbles. The head is so thick and creamy that it looks like mud on top of the beer.
S - On the nose I get dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt.
T - This is where it gets a little strange. At first I tasted a delicious RIS with dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and even a little dark fruit. Then I poured in the last inch of the bottle and it changed. It became more bitter and the alcohol became noticeable.
M - Thick and chewy. Very smooth
O - I'm not sure what to think. Everything started great, as expected, then the sediment made it bitter and boozy. I will leave an inch in the bottom of my last bottle of this vintage.

Decided to grab this brew in celebration of the Blackhawks Stanley Cup victory!
A: Pours a dark, motor oil brown with a tan head that fades quickly. Thick, as expected.
A: The nose is divided between sweet and dark chocolate malts and coffee.
T: The sweeter milk chocolate notes (lactose) surface immediately and gradually fade to a wonderful dark chocolate/coffee finish. There is an underlying fruit character as well--perhaps raisins. The combination of flavors yields some char character, and oak qualities as well.
M: Milky and somewhat chewy, with mild, fine carbonation that fits the profile well.
O: IPt5 fulfills the criteria for a stout experience, but it provides a complex enough experience to separate from most of the pack. Definitely worth the purchase.

Thanks to stxSS07 for the extra!
A- Pitch black pour, frothy mocha colored head with some foamy lacing.
S- Roasty charred malt, hints of coffee and cocoa. Almost a coffee creamer aroma is present too.
T- Big, rich roasty malt flavors. Cocoa, hints of coffee, still getting a lactose-like taste. Almost like a sugarless brownie with a hint of char. Very tasty and big on flavor.
M- A huge, smooth, creamy, full-bodied stout. Medium-low carbonation, a smooth sipper.
O- A great imperial stout. Nothing that strays from the norm, but extremely well done.
