12 oz. poured into a Stone Old Guardian Tulip on April 27th, 2012.

A - Nearly identical to Double Crooked Tree - pours a dirty, hazy, toffee-brown coloring. But the haze never really leaves and there's definitely less carbonation and retention on this one. Weird.

S - Light waft of white bread, floral and citrus characters, touch of caramel malts underneath. Not particularly robust.

T- Front palate tangerines and banana peel. Subtle transition into a mid palate malt bill, with further bready soft malts. Rear palate of hop bitterness fades into the aftertaste.

M- Light-medium body. Good carbonation. Decently smooth. Lightly dry finish. No heat presence.

D - Very easy to see how this morphs into the big brother double version. Easy drinker and good alternative to FFF in my neck of the woods.

Had this after a blind porter tasting along with five other MI IPAs. This is the only one I hadn't reviewed.

Pours a cloudy orange with a little frothy cap. On the nose there are oranges apparent over everything else, very vividly orange compared to other IPAs we had. There is evidence of caramel sweetness but it's pretty far under the orange. In the mouth the orange sits back a little bit further towards the caramel. The body is just a hair sticky for me, probably because of the caramel presence. The finish is long and the orange lasts forever.

Overall, this held its own very well with both the Two-Hearted and Centennial we split right before this. The biggest difference here was the orange over other citrus. Very good.

12 oz bottle poured into a standard pint glass.

A - Pours a copper color with a ton of suspended haze and specks. I wasn't expecting so much sediment, so I wasn't at all careful on the pour. Very little light passes through. Small off-white head dies quickly. Good lacing.

S - Citrus hops and a lot of sweet malt.

T - Biscuity malt, followed by a little bit of honey, grass, and a floral hop bite.

M - Good carbonation and a just beyond medium body.

O - Good, but not great, IPA. Doesn't really do anything to separate itself from the vast sea of IPAs out there. It was certainly on the malty side, but I suspect it may be a bit past its prime. Dark Horse provides no dating info, so I will not give them the benefit of the doubt on the freshness and assume this is how they intended it. I much prefer DCT, and probably won't get this one again.

Pours a fairly cloudy deep orange with 1.5 off white head. Consistent lacing throughout.

Aroma is citrus with orange zest most prominent, A little bread in the smell as well. Taste is immediately biscuity and bitter, not just in the aftertaste. Not getting as much citrus in the taste, a bit one dimensional but a nice IPA.
